How often do you change the timing chain and how do you know if it needs replacement? My TC has 272K miles and it runs fine i was curious if timing chain could be a problem. it was a one owner corporate vehicle so i assume maintenance was done

What year is your car?

The timing chains on 91+ (modulars) seem to last forever, but if you have a 2000-2003 model the chain tensioner guides are defective and wear quickly, which will let the chain eat into them (and causing a number of issues as a result, including potential oil pressure loss and engine failure)

So if you have a 00-03 you should have them replaced with the revised guides ASAP - especially if over 75k, before anything significant happens.

There is a TSB on this issue; 03-15-7
