Okay, I think I want to paint my chrome window trim black. I've pretty much de-chromed the whole car besides badging.

Last night I grabbed some electrical tape, just to get an idea of what it would look like.

So there are 3 options for me:
1 - leave as is
2 - just paint the upper chrome trim, and leave the straight line chrome under the window
3 - paint everything black

On with the pics. Let me know which one you think would be best. I'm asking for help because I'm having trouble deciding which one I like the best:

as it is stock:

just the top painted black:

And the entire trim painted black:

on your color all black is best I think.

Don't waste your time painting it though. Just get a quality pin strip tape and do it. Takes no time at all and does last. Mines like 2 years old and still perfect.

Yeah, I would do the pinstriping like you did. It was what, 25 bucks for a huge roll of it?

IIRC, it was 3m gloss black 5/8" pinstriping tape?

Top trim was 3/8" I believe, never did the bottom but I think 1/2 was the way to go. I like the chrom under the windows on my Black car with chrome wheels.

Yeah it was under 25bucks for 150', plenty to screw up some. It was a 3M product. A good paint shop can get it if not in stock. They make like every color and widths up to like 4".

3/8 sounds better. I went out and took measurements. You are correct on both sizes.

Trimbrite Blackout tape. It is a matte black fininsh and looks great. Do the entire surround.

And I see you are from Chanhassen. Where were you at the last MN meet?

I just looked up the trimbrite. Do you know if it comes in those desired widths of 3/8 and 1/2"?

It does not come in those widths. It comes in 1 3/8 width. I cut it in half and used one factory edge to place the tape. Then cut the other edge with an Exacto knife. It came out great and the edges do not pull up. I think one roll will do both sides of the car if you do not make errors. Trimbrite item T9005 if I remember correctly. 20 foot roll that I got at O'Reillys. They did need to special order it for me.

i like all chrome better...the all black just doesn't go well with the side mirrors......

Get the 3M in the right size, forget the knife. You'll be scratching up stuff. The fact that it comes in tons of widths vs. 1 size fits all should tell you something. That and something from a paint supply shop is going to be alot better than from O'Reillys.

I think you should leave it as is. I think it looks a little odd on your lighter color car the way the black trim interrupts the mirror and door paint. My second choice would be just the top done black.
