I was placing my order at Jack in the Box and started to pull up to the window and heard this ticking sound coming from the rear. Sounded like it was on the drivers side. You can hear it better when you are up close to a building like a drive-thru but going down the road I can't seem to hear it. I came home and jacked it up and everything seemed to be ok in the rear. Could this be axle bearings that when they have a load on them make this sound and when its jacked up don't? If it is bearings does anybody have a link on procedures to change em out? Thanks

You will need to be more descriptive...

Is it consistent when the car is running?

Is it only when the car is moving?

Have the same 'problem', but it's coming from the right (can't tell if front or back).

Haven't found anything obviously wrong either.

:dancefool Mine also did the same thing untill I changed the rear pads. Never heard it again afterwards

it could be many things, best bet is to jack up the rear and spin the wheel and see if you can duplicate the noise. if so then take off the wheel and run a couple lugnuts down on the studs to secure the rotor and turn it again and look for movement

Or maybe just a stone caught in the tread.... :) ?
Thats the 1st thing I looked for, or a screw or nail in the tire. I've jacked it up and see no unusual movement in the u-joints or axle shafts. I can't duplicate the sound with the cars ass in the air, which makes me think its a bearing under load making the noise.

what did you order at jack in the box?

I want that smoothie they're offering. Too bad RI doesn't have any.

I have a weird ticking sound, seems from below the drivers seat under the car only when its in park or neutral, weird.

Oh, that's an easy one - RUN, IT'S A BOMB!!!

Nah, wouldn't be a stone in the tires - there's no tread on 'em.

I'm leaning towards a brake pad too, will check that out. I highly doubt it's a bearing, they squeal, and the noise mine has is definately 'external' sounding.
