I got 2 subs(although i might have to sell these and buy new ones cuz box looks like it might be too tall) and a amp thas been sittin in my room for a while now.. im gonna thro these in sometime soon.

I know i gotta get a RCA converter cuz i dont have a aftermarket radio so has anyone does this before? if so how much did u have to pay for converter and/or installation.

will this work if u got the thx system/navi unit?

heres a pic of them for those of u who may be interested in whats goin in.. they are less than 2 feet tall not sure of exact hieght

$20.00 RCA converters are GARBAGE.... Im running a JL cleanSweep. It does the same thing but ALOOOOT better. Research it. 9v preouts. Cant beat it. I think I paid 299.00 for mine.

wow anouther 300... why was the 20 dollar one so crappy??

im willing to shell out the doh if i find its worth it

the cheap ones are crappy because the way these things work. They wire into the factory unit using the speaker channels if i remember right. The cheaper the unit, the cheaper the processor that re-formats the signal to match the factory head unit. The better the processor, the better the sound output. Cheap Line out converters tend to have a staticy, raspy sound. Like one of those tapes with the wire that comes out to connect to a ipod or discman type feel to them. lol

On top of that, a cheap line out converter doesnt allow any tuning. A lot of higher end converters have knobs and toggles to adjust things the factory unit cant adjust... like sub output (and no, the factory "bass" control isnt going to cut it)

thanks would a 70 dollar one be worth it? or should i go 100+? 150-200? or just go all out 250+?

if ur willing to spend the doh then dont buy a cheap line converter or a "cleanSweep" spend it on a HU.

if u wire to ur stock HU ur gonna be processing an already processed signal.

its not crappy, they work fine. get a 20$ one. Thats what i have, and i paid some guy at my school who put his in 70$ and he did a perfect job but took like 14 hours lol. I'd just ask around. Im sure "somebody knows somebody"...

i used the 70 dollar one and it sounds good in the ls when i had it hooked up in the navi it sounded like sh8t so i was a little scared to do but one day i tried it and it sounds great now with my box since i have a 15 i had to take out the upper liner out of the truck so it would fit. but back to the point no matter what convertor you used you still have to adjust everything to the way you want it to sound i wouldnt wast the money on a high dollar one

I did mine at Best Buy for around 270 with the cable and line out converter for the stock head unit. That was for subwoofer install, I did the speakers myself.

I had mine done at Best Buy as well. $250 and some change for a subwoofer install to the factory heead unit.

the 20 dollar unit is fine. we are talking low end base here people. your not going to hear all the little flaws that it provides. if your not running a 4 channel its not worth the clean sweep. you can grab the speaker wire behind the radio or in the b piller. they are usually twisted together.

just so i make this clear for myself now... RCA converter = all i need to install the amp? dont gotta change nothing else?

then all i gotta do is put rcas from amp to rca converter then power it up n good to go...

i might go the cheap route for now, if it sounds like crap ill go over 100

thats one way to do it, if you had the rear deck subs then there should be low level output already.

yup got 6 speakers on the THX system 1 on each door and 2 back deck ill probably go to best buy sometime this week when i got time. thanks a lot

Each door should be considered 2 speakers, you dont have a pair of speakers in your center console? The rear deck speakers would be the ones powered by an amp. Giving you a total of "12"

try that to save the $20 if u don't like it then get the line converter.

um.. dont think so? i knoew i have at least 2 amps one is right under the back deck and another is to the side behind the carpeting in the trunk and its twice as big(rough estimate) as the one by deck speakers

never seen center console speakers... anyone got pics?

why are door speakers considered 2? they got a tweeter in there too ??

You should only have one amp in the trunk, nestled between the two 6x9 speakers in the rear shelf. The other one in there is just a bonus one i guess, someone forgot to take it out when they sold it. Depending on the year of your car, you will have two center console speakers (one next to your right knee). Later THX equipped cars will not have these.

ya i was amazed when i found out i had 2 stock amps.. and im like 90% sure i dont have front console speakers

If you have the THX system, then you won't. They weren't considered to add much to the sound scheme so they were eliminated. I dont know about the amp though, i dont have much experience with the later model LS. Hope someone else can chime in.
