Thoughts on this buy?

2000 LS V8 132k on the clock, no accidents, black on black, and it has dual slowmasters..I mean flowmasters on it ;)

Here's the problems, are these serious problems and how much would they cost?

1. Sunroof carriage broke so it won't go back.
2. Plastic handle in trunk to get to battery not attached (may be broke)
3. Ashtray doesn't open without prying
4. Steering wheel wiring problem (cruise, horn etc) don't work
5. A few dents and some bad touch up paint marks.

He's asking $4600.00

Is it worth it? This car is for my wife so it needs to be reliable and get her to work as she is the bread winner in this house....until I finish school :rolleyes:
 
1) dont know how bad that could be.
2) if it's broken you can jerrry rig something up for a few bucks or buy a new one on ebay.
3)Easy fix.
4) I have heard that the clock spring may have something to do with that.This might be the only "bigger" fix but shouldn't be costly or that hard.
5) If it's for the wife is she going to care much about a few dings and scratches?

The only one that I would be concerned about would be the steering wheel wiring problems, but the other are simple fixes, I'm not sure about the roof.You should ask when he last changed the coils,plugs,vcg's, cause they are common failures and you dont want to be stuck with bad coils after a few days of purchase. It has more thaan 115K so some cooling pipes may start leaking, just keep that in mind. They are not expensive to change or fix, but I'm just saying. It can be realiable if everything has maintained, but it if was given a beating and not maintained well,you might be in for some work.

For 2000, 132k, I would think 4600 would be too much.3500-4000 maybe?
 
cars worth 1500 tops i bought an 02 with 120k miles and a broken clock spring for 4600
 
Wow. The prices around here suck then. It's impossible to find any Lincoln LS's of any year with under 100k or just barely over 100k within the $5000 - $5999 thousand dollar range...

Maybe we need to hold off for a bit and wait for reasonable prices. What did everyone else pay and how much mileage did your vehicle have?
 
$19,900 + TTL for a 2003 Premium Sport V8 with 25,000 miles, in 2006. (reminds me, LS will be paid off this year... YAY!)

Do yourself a favor, if you are buying a reliable car for your wife, don't buy an LS.

If not an LS what is your recommendation? She won't even consider a Mark VIII because she sees how literally I still haven't had one day yet since I've owned the car where there wasn't a problem that needs to be resolved. So that is not an option.

When I did a thread a few weeks back about how long these cars last the only issues anyone mentioned was replacing the coils a lot, and someone else said the coolant hoses need to be replaced. Is there something beyond that I'm unaware of?
 
taurus, sable, focus, mustang, F-150, any Ford product less than 5-8 years old.
