I am replacing the usual coolant system components. My new thermostat has a very stiff main spring. It is very difficult to seat into the housing. I am concerned that it may be too still and cause damage to the housing. The old spring is much easier to compress. Any thoughts? Should it be very stiff? I know, subjective description. Can I reuse the old main spring?

The springs are very stiff. As long as you use a new housing/holder and use an open-end wrench to compress it like shown in the manual, there shouldn't be any problem.

Watch the alighment, it only goes in one way, theres a little tab for seating it

~ and for gods sake, be sure to point it in the right direction! LOL j/k
