Now I see why this thread started like as sales pitch and turned into non stop argueing.

your the one who started arguing....you came into this thread and started. you could've left it alone and just passed on by

i did not start this as a sales pitch(the first post was more or less a joke). i started it so people could give opinions on their radar detectors, where and how they mount them, why or why not it works for them. not whether or not we should speed or have them at all. if you want to start a thread about how dangerous speeding is and how it puts you and your daughters life at risk then by all means go ahead.


and on another note...i have those emblems all wrapped up if you still want them
 
Speed limits are underposted by 15-20 mph to protect the weak and inattentive drivers.
Some of us are just more compitent and capable behind the wheel.
I drive with 2 feet and can respond up to 1/2 second faster than a 1 footed driver.
Cops speed all the time on patrol breaking the law to enforce it.
They don't even have to wear seatbelts as part of police priviledge.
I drive up to Toronto quite often and it's so refreshing when everyone compitent is going 80-90 mph and the slow drivers and lollygaggers stay in their lane.
I once drove from New Brunswick on the east coast all the way to Toronto at a constant 90-95 mph. I saw only one cop the whole way and he was doing 90 too.

Yes but think about how that also saves us from them.

I am a good driver as well and I always thought it would always be OK till one of those drivers fuqd up and I had my previous car totaled now at lower speeds things aren't always as dramatic dude, but things just happen no matter how good you are.
 
Well at least now we know where you're coming from.
I had a car written out from under me and it turned out to be a good thing.
Serendipity (a fortunate accident) has been my middle name through life.
I was trying to sell a car and no one was buying.
I was stopped at a light behind 2 cars.
Some guy came off a higheay ramp and while looking in his sideview mirror to change lanes, rearended me and pushed me into the car in front of me.
I wasn't wearing a seatbelt but the seat hinges broke and reclined giving me enough room to come back up and not hit the dashboard when the car hit the one in front of me.
I wasn't hurt, not even a scratch, the car was totalled and the insurance company gave me more money than I was trying to sell the car for.
Well I suppose we can agree to disagree here about speeding.
 
Well, OK but I was wearing my seat belt and still hit the windshield. I wouldn't have if that person wouldn't had been speeding, in fact they wouldn't have skidded past the intersection either ( I T-BONED THEM ). Now because someone was speeding I have to go to the Dr's office every month for pain killers for chronic headaches and this happend 2 years ago, I only finaly have been able to afford Dr.s visits over the last few months, maybe 6 or 7 of them. And this ain't just the kind from not wearing your glasses, I cant even afford at this time to keep my car up to date and I would be screwed bad if I cant scrounge up the 155 bucks for a prescription every 30 days. Oh and we didnt own this car, we were still paying it off. Had it about 3 months, now I see your point but you would have thought different if someone was hurt pretty bad. No matter how much you didnt want the car you were driving.

But that wasn't my initial point..:)

What is my point is that some people feel comfortable with what they use for a reason and there is no reason to get offended over a damn cop detector. Half the people here would argue with me all day for some of the things I waste money on:shifty: but it makes me feel comfortable, some might argue cause I feel the need not to waste so much on things that others would.:D
 
then we can all agree to disagree. sometimes it is safe to go over the speed limit sometimes its not. but for that fraction of time you go over it....someone (police) is out to get you
 
I have 3 Valentine Ones (got tired of moving 'one' from car to car).....and have passed 2 older ones down to my sons, so that makes 5. Yep, I like them, a lot.

Whilst some of those Remote Displays posted are clever, cops can see them when looking through a window. The remote display on my LS is down under the headlight switch so cops can't see it from either window, also the reason I put the main unit up under the small visor (which I leave down all the time, leaving just the rear antenna exposed to pick up rear signals) just to the left of the drivers interior mirror and the wire is tucked out of sight, no coil wire.... When a cop stops you and sees a radar detector it tends to remove any doubt (which the low lifes probably didn't have anyway but......) from whether or not they're going to write you up.

IF, and that's a very big IF, if the V1 gets that many more false alarms, it still doesn't put it below other radar detectors because the junk radar detection feature and the direction detection out weigh that in usefulness big time. This comes from a TON of experience with this detector.
 
Let me see if I can put it as politely as possible......I had (well still have in it's box) one of their jammers. Um....facts, reminding myself, ok....part of the case itself melted in the sun down here in Phoenix. I've had Escorts, Passports, Beartrackers and of course many Valentine ones mounted in the upper windscreens of cars and never had anything melt, except of course for one. The test that one of the big three car mags did (Car and Driver/Road & Track or Automobile, don't recall exactly) showed this jammer wouldn't work on a bicycle with a 12V battery on it to power the jammer.

I sure hope their detectors are better.....

Wow...that doesn't sound very good. I just purchased the detector/jammer, hard wired it and it worked for about an hour then burned up or something. they are replacing it on Tues.
 
Never owned one personally, but both Speed Measurement Labs and Radartest.com tests have shown their scramblers are complete garbage. I think one of the sites stated they got approximately equal results from a box of kleenex left on the dashboard.
 
I had one of their passive phazer radar jammers once. It was totally worthless.
It's supposed to add some kind of chirp to the reflection of the radar beam but it did nothing against one of those stationary trailers that flashes how fast you're going.
I'd say their stuff is total garbage and am surprised they're still in business.
 
can anyone tell me the link on the how-to install the V1 directly un the upper dome lights...i have wanted to do this for so long...

Rocky Mountain is crap....they have class actions pending against them. And yeah that junk radar filter on the V1's is amazing....thats what the SpectreIII(I think its called) picks up too.

and i tried mounting my v1 up high above the rear view and it noticeably picked up less signal i assume from the solar strip up there

You're right...I finally looked at some of the comparisons and they suck. I told the dealer not to order me a new so instead he's getting me the Beltronics BEL RX65.

The Bel RX65 has served me very well for the last year or so. I get PLENTY of warning (5 miles at one point of very clear road; yes I did measure it out as the CHPer was stationary) and I really like the versatility. Programming is pretty easy and all it is missing are the arrows.

Got the junk filter (works pretty well, AFAICT), don't know about the other. I can select multiple band display.

FYI the Bel Pro Rx65 has what they call THREAT DISPLAY. This option tracks multiple radar signals and their relative signal strength and displays the band and its strength (Ka9 K2 X1). It has TECH DISPLAY that will show the actual numeric frequency (K 24.150). Also has 3 levels of “junk radar filtering”.

No it does not have arrows that seem to be important to some.

For me I have found that living with a detector I can tell by the strength of the alert tone I am about to or getting hit with radar/laser and too busy making sure I’m legal to care what kind of radar/laser or where it is coming from.

If you are leading the pack or out there alone and get tagged with POP, Instant On or Laser and your speeding above an acceptable amount your more than likely going to get a ticket regardless what kind of detector you have.
 
you cant get a ticket solely from POP radar. instant on will get you yeah but if your in a hurry then it helps. my freind is a good example of illegal but useful radar detector being that he is a volunteer firefighter and when he gets a call he uses the radar detector to keep himself from being pulled over and wasting time responding to a call.

you do generally get a feel for signal strength knowing if its a cop or not and valentine's logic modes greatly reduce false alarms and help you tell if its really a cop and where, better
and yeah the whole explanation you gaveof the band it displays is bel's way of getting around valentine's patents which im pretty sure i heard somewhere is being disputed in court

all this shows is that every other radar company is trying to copy valentine....not the other way around since mike valentine pretty much pioneered the radar detector and the v1 has been largely unchanged since it first came out. he pioneered it, patented it, and now everyone is finding loopholes to use somewhat the same technology.

but hey like i said whatever works for you to keep you from getting a ticket then by all means....your $ your choice.
