Today I was attempting to change the O-ring on my oil filler tube (which btw I still havent found an O-ring that fits) and I found this weird "bag" under the intake manifold. Anybody else noticed that on the 3.9? It looks like it's there from the factory. Anyway, its all soaked with oil on one side from the leaking VCG's and O-ring, and I dont know wtf its supposed to be there for. Insulation maybe? Anybody know?

I may have to. I've checked all the places here that I can think of that might have oil safe O-rings with no luck.

Didn't you know? All LS's come with free heroin!:p I think it's sound deadening material.

Haha About a month or two back I took the LS for an oil change and the guys there found the exact same thing and thought it was a bag of coke.

the bag has its purpose, its for when your engine craps out, all the crap will land in it. LOL!!!

I didnt know these were made in Columbia!

I kinda figured it was some kind of insulation. The problem is its got oil on and under it, (and maybe some IN it too, I cant really tell) and when it gets hot it stinks. I kept smelling oil after I replaced the VCG's and couldnt find any other leaks. I knew it had to be old though because the fresh oil I put in it smells like eggs. I spilled some down the side of the valve cover right onto the exhuast manifold.
Are there any important sensors under there? Can I just blast the hell out of it with a water hose and some degreaser?

Well, if you're interested in cleaning that area, I would not blast it with a hose. You should clean the area carefully with a cloth soaked with degreaser or some Simple Green. I'd also replace the entire sound deadening bad if I were you. And, no, I don't know what it costs.

How do you propose I get my hand down there to do that? :shifty:
Maybe I just wont worry about it. Took the car on a 3 hour road trip this weekend and alot of the smell went away, so I think I burned most of the oil off.
