I just joined, and my 00 v8 allready has some problems.

Q1: My engine is driping oil onto the exhaust. I am taking it into the shop tomorrow. What I'm wondering is if I can just get them to use a scilicone instead of replacing the gaskets or whatever.

Q2: My car starts to lurch when it gets to about 1900 rpms. I seems like its worse when its in 4th and 5th gear. I really feels like the spark plugs are bad. It feels like its missfiring. But I just had new plugs and wires put in. It did this for a couple of days before the check engine light came on. I'm wondering if maybee the plugs and wires were installed wrong, or if it's something else.
I just got the car, and I dont have a lot of knowledge about the car, so help would be cool.

How much did they charge you for the wires ? Whatever it was....dont take it back to that shop again. Its your valve cover gaskets, do a search and find plenty of threads.

I dont know. I bought the car from my uncle who is a car dealer. He had it done before I bought it from him.

I was asking that because the LS doesnt have wires. You said you didnt have alot of knowledge about the LS so i thought i'd fill you in on that part. The replacing of the plugs was a waste of $$ since the problem is the gaskets. Common problem on the early models.

right - the VC gaskets are leaking - on to the exhaust and into you spark plug wells - very common on pre-03 LSes....

replace the plugs, coils and VC gaskets.....

Like already posted - many threads on this.

I'd stick with a ford/lincoln dealer if you decide to go that route. I believe its expensive, around $2000 at a dealer. There are some who have done the repair themselves, but if your not mechanically inclined i'd stick to a dealer.

+1

replacing the VC gaskets was one of the more difficult repairs I did on my LS.

The passenger side took about 3 hours - the driver's side took the rest of the day.....

You need a full set of tools, wrenches - sockets - knuckles - extentions.. many of the bolts are hidden away and access limites by the engine bay....
You need to have a 10mm and 7mm socket, gear wrench and a magnetic pickup tool (cause you'll drop the 7mm wrech a dozen times.....)

total pain.

The parts are not bad -
- about $70 for the gaskets
- $20 for new plugs
- coils are $30 - $80 depending where you get them
- dielectric grease - $1
- RTV - $6

Makes me kinda happy that mine blew out when it was still under warranty.

I attempted this myself on my 02 V8. The detailed writeup is somewhere on this site, but even with the instructions, I crapped out. The passenger side is not that bad, and I should have at least started there, and got that side done.

But I started on the drivers side, and after about 5 hours of banging knuckles, messing around in TIGHT space by the brake reservoir, brittle plastic hose clips snapping, and associated annoyances..I packed it in, and took it to the local Ford dealership. (Slightly better labor rates than the local Lincoln dealership) I think I paid around $1200 total earlier this year. That was just labor, as I had already picked up new plugs and the Valve Cover Gasket kit from the Lincoln dealership.

Oh..I caught mine early, before any coils were damaged. 72k miles now and original coils still fine.
