Ford tried to charge me for a belt and after reading some threads i learned that this should be covered under the original fatory warranty. I told them and after learning that the car was purchased in jan 05 they happily agreed. when i bought the car i purchased the extended warranty for 6 years or 75000 miles. MY question besides whats in the title above is when should my extended warranty start?? should it start from the date purchased or from when the factory warranty expires

After 1 year or 12K it is considered wear and tear item for the rest of the warranty and not covered.

Factory warranty starts the day you purchase the LS new and is then in service, your extended warranty starts the day your factory warranty expires, 4 years or 50K from that date.

Keep in mind that the factory warranty periods are different for different year models. I think the belt is covered for the full period of the warranty. In fact, I can't think of anything that is covered for only one year.
I did find out today that the battery warranty is not prorated. So, if you battery has a problem (mine was leaking), then it is changed out for free, even if you are near the end of the warranty.

My 2004 with less than 20K, they would not replace cracked leather steering wheel, it was out of the 12K-12 months because it is considered normal wear and tear.

1 year bumper to bumper and limited 4 year 50K warranty.
