I am triing to help out some body just to be good. Alright out of the blue sunday a lady stopped by my house for some help because her son told her to talk to the guy with the fast mark he met at the track. Anyways the lights blow the fuse after a split second when a new fuse is inserted. The reverse and blinkers work. Any idea what could be shorted. I haven't had this problem on my gen 2 so I really don't know. I more or this learn what i need to fix and move on. If its not too much i'd like to help her out she cann't afford to pay dealer labor. Frayed wires?? relays??? Because this isn't my car and she drive it daily i would like to get some ideas on this. Thanks

Ok that makes sense, its gotta be a short. I just didn't know if this car had a relay that may do this. With the lights out she cannt shift out of park if the car is started. how stupid is that. Rather than flashing the tail light out warning it just locks the car in park. thanks kid

A what Issue? I think she turns the key shifts to neutral and then starts. other wise no worky

pop the trunk.

remove carpet stuff from trunk lid. just remove pins on passenger side.....

unplug the neon light.

try a new fuse......

it was a bad neon ballast on mine, you can shift to neutral and drive the car if needed, move the key to the first position, and move shifter.... itll bypass the shift lock........

yeah im saying the same thing, if the neon ballast is bad, it will cause the fuse to blow as soon as the lights are turned on, and if she is shifting to nuetral then starting the car even more strongly it may be this, like said above, pull back the carpet on the bottom of the trunk lid and unplug the neon light, then put a new fuse in and i'll bet she can start it in park and shift it fine. this happened in my 97 lsc too. actually kind of common. when this happens it kills all the tail lights and brake lights, the fuse blows for the shifter safety interlock and wont let you put the car in gear so you dont get rear ended from not having any rear lights. kind of smart on one part, pain in the ass on the other!!

I'm guessing frayed wires on the trunk lid and a blown fuse......

shorted ballast....

open the trunk, pull the carpet back on the passenger side of the trunk lid.
Disconnect the rear neon ballast, both the power wire and the ground wire that bolts to the trunk lid.

then replace the fuse and I'll betcha it doesnt blow again.

Damn.. I must read further down before hitting the reply button

Teh glitch ballast is a very nice peice.. especially for the price.
Considering how much the "used" ones are going for on ebay?

it makes no sense to by a "used" ballast when a "new" and "better design" is available for usually less than an ebay ballast.

plagiarism!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

the stock ballast also weighs a ton compared to glitch's, the trunk lid just flies open now..............

its not always the ballast though, i have seen many times the white wires that go into the neon housing the jacket slips back on them exposing bare wire going into the neon and can cause a serious short and without cutting plastic away on the back of the housing you cant fix it. take the neon off the car and inspect the wires where they go into the back of the neon and make sure they arent trashed.

I'm going to throw a glitch ballast on my car here soon, and then sell my working OEM ballast to recoup my losses and probably make a small profit!
