Here are a few pics of my install so far. I dont have my front components in yet, that will be tomorrow nights project.
I am amazed with the Type R alpine sub so far, in a sealed box that small I cant believe how deep and hard the bass is. The box is only .8 ft3 after the sub is installed. I would also recommend those CDT 6x9 subs for anyone who only wants something in the rear deck. These things have great bass all by themselves! Very impressive for their size.

How much power are you running to the type R's? I heard from a guy I know that does competitions and whatnot that they can easily handle 1500 to 2000 watts. I had him build me a ported enclosure for my Trailblazer that I'm running a single 12" Type E w/ 300 watts and I'm impressed with the bass it gets. In my Mark VIII I have 2 type S 12's in sealed box, about 1 cube each and they pound pretty damn hard. Keep up with the pics though.

The sub box is small enough to slide under the rear shelf. Leaves me lots of trunk space. That Kenwood amp runs the 12", its a Dclass mono sub amp. It runs 600w x 1 RMS. It would run 1200w RMS@ 1 ohm if I had the 2ohm dvc Type R.

Well, I got the components installed and found 1 of the drivers is shot. So I will have to replace them now.. I found a couple sweet deals on Craigslist, so Ill see if they are still available.

I dont see any need for a cap at this point, with the car off and the bass rockn the lights don't even flinch. The battery and alternator seem to be keeping voltage no problem. If I see any problems I can always go with a Optima battery, Ive used those for years in my race car.

Nice install with the ARCs! Ill put some pics of my sweet looking BLOWN Type Rs later tonight ;)

Wow you bought Alpine's Type R's and one of them is blown? That sucks dude, those aren't too cheap either. I assume you checked and re-checked all the wiring. Have you tried to return it? or did you buy it off ebay? I have purchased speakers off ebay before without problem (provided they are new). I will never buy used speakers... you never know what the last monkey did to them.

Well heres a pic of the door install. The other pic is of some polycarb sides I made for my sub box. Ill paint the large panels from behind with black paint. Ill paint the back of the emblems silver and adhere them in place. (I laser cut the emblems out of some acrylic at work)

Yeah it sux that ones no good, but I have had them for years. I got the Rs when they first came out. To me they are still one of the best quality sounding speakers out there. They just got banged up the last couple times Ive moved. I found a set of Boston Acoustic Pro 6.5s on craigslist for $100. Also found a brand new in the box set of Fanatic Qs.. Ill see who offers the best deal ;)

Yes, thats what the painted side panels are for. It will hide the seams :)
(Plus, when its under the rear deck you can really only see the front anyways)
The vinyl over padding, or any surface other than a flat one for that matter, is much more difficult than it would seem. heh

Heres the final pics, I am finally done!
I found a replacement 6.5" speaker at a surplus store here in MN for.... $12.
Yes 12 bux. Looking at it, it looks like a minature sub. Compared to the oversized 6.75" Type R it is much larger. I assumed it would have alot of bass but probably have alot muddier sound than the alpines. I was wrong, this speaker was obviously not designed for a large enclosure, the type r has alot more low end bass in the door (although, I dont run the fronts that low anyways). The cheap speaker is much clearer in the midrange and vocals. I couldnt believe it. Ill probably order two nicer 6.5 woofers from partsexpress (they have great speakers for about $15-20 ea.)
