I've had my Lincoln for a couple of weeks now. So far I've put some rims, installed the angel headlights (which I'm still trying to figure out how to wire) clear corners, and had the Avic D3 customed installed in the dash. I've got a couple of questions that I really need some advice on.
1. I've got the 2002 Lincoln LS V8. What factory system comes with that model? Does it have a factory amplifier for all the speakers?
2. Just had the Avic installed. The 6x9's don't work in the rear anymore. Did I get a crappy install or does the avic not have enough outlets for all the speakers in the car?
3. Looking at getting a JL Audio 10w7 pushed by a JL Audio 500-1. Anybody know of someone with a similar setup?
4. Looking to get some HID bulbs that match the angel eye headlights (they are chromium). Anybody know where I can get a pair.
5. Looking for a pair of headrests if anybody has any.

I like to know the answer for number one lol, but i got a 2000 LS8, not sure if its the same system
 
If you have rear deck speakers you have the Alpine Factory system. If you have door speakers you have regular factory speakers. They should work with no problem though. If they knew what they were doing they would of spliced all the right wires. But, if you don't have the alpine system let me know and I will post the wiring diagram for said sound system. But, I am pretty sure they should work properly. A real audio shop installs a clean wiring harness that works properly. I would take the car back and demand them to fix it. But, about the 10 inch sub. I had 2 10 inch sub's so you shouldn't have a problem with that. If you have the rear deck speakers it will make it even easier if you don't want to run them from the head unit. You can splice into the rear deck speaker wires and get a rca converter and hook the amp up straight to the converter. But, I would run it up to the head unit just for a cleaner look. Now for hid's it all depends on how much you want to spend if money isn't an option. Then lskoncepts a site sponsor has hid's ranging from 300-500 that are plug and play that are very reputable hid's. If you want to go the cheap route like I did. Umnitza has a sale on 25watt plug and play small ballast hid's. They work fine for me but, I just had to break them in but, for a 125 shipped it's hard to beat. Also about the angel eyes. To get a pretty decent match I would go with 6000k. For the last question ebay has some lcd's for cheap that is pretty much a custom job. I would go to a audio shop and get quotes. Just buy the screens yourself and get the shop to install them. That would be your cheapest option.
 
hmm, i only got the door speakers, but it sounds like the Alpine system, it produces great base, then again, i don't know if the previous owner changed the speakers because he used to own subs in the trunk, and i never took off the door panels to check what they are.

Is there anyway you can post specific links to where I can get the HID's your talking about.....the cheaps ones....LOL....I'm not worried about the price, just as long as they look good.
Also do you have a picture of your ride so I can see the color?

I actually was successful at installing subs on my stock deck, a low level signal powers the sub amp. you can use that to power an after market amplifier.

It will sound like but can be done... The RCA will share a common ground... which is not going to do very well for sheilding. Also the DSP will limit your volume on the amp because the crossover is built into your HU To get better output use a High to low converter and run your RCAs from that but if you insist on using the stock low level outputs then here ya go......

yellow/red wire will be your remote wire to amp...

red wire is your hot wire which i don't recommend using for an aftermarket amp its just so small, run a new wire directly from your batter which is already in the trunk so it will be piece of cake. Make sure you keep that wire insolated so that it doesn't short on the stray grounded metal in your trunk.

white/red wire will be the core of the Left RCA, she sheild will be the black wire wrapped in what looks like tape, keep in mind that that will be shared with the right RCA.

grey/red wire will be the right core for your RCA, remember it will share the same sheild as your left wire.

Black wire (not the sheild) will obviously be the ground wire. again i recommend just running a new ground...

Here is also something to consider. Some amplifiers give off radical signal noise. Your antenna is right above your trunk in your rear windsheild. In my case my amps signal noise gives me poor reception. But then again i am running a 3000 watt class D amp.

Hey appreciate the help man, that's a sweet ride you got there by the way.
The link that you posted takes me right to Paypal....just to make sure I got the right lights...the HIDSPECIAL+9006 S Prolumen+Xenon ( listed as what I'm buying on Paypal) that's the bulbs you have in your ride in the picture, is that for the low beams, high beams, and fog lights or what?
 
The speakers on the back deck (of an Alpine system) are the subs. Underneath the deck (accessed from within the trunk) is an amp. This amp is solely to power those two deck speakers/subs.

When I installed my Avic, I used a basic ford wiring harness adapter. I think the brand was Metra? Got it via crutchfield when I bought the Avic. Using this harness I simply plugged the factory plugs into this adapter, and the rear deck subs worked just fine.

You do, however, lose the center console mounted "imaging" speakers. But I honestly cant say I miss them. With everything connected as it is now, the sound is great with the Avic, stock amp, stock speakers. I mean EXCELLENT sound.
 
Yeah that's what I was thinking to lseguy. They should work perfectly. But, make sure to include 6000k bulbs in the order. Those are low beams though.
 
Umm...

I've got the two in the center console, and then two front, and two rear door speakers, plus the 6x9's. They all worked before I had the avic installed. Where exactly is the amp located in the trunk? Do you guys think the amp is not hooked up to the avic or what? Is it possible that they hooked the "imagining speakers" up instead of the wiring from the 6x9's? I'm going to pull out the avic today and give it a look....What are the colors of the wiring from amp running to the headunit....
I like the lights in your ride, but I'm looking for the complete set (all 6). I think I read somewhere on here somebody got em like that. I could be wrong though.
 
Background noise

Oh....one more thing....just to top it off.....since the avic was installed there is an annoying sound inside the car.....it kinda sounds like a high pitch that is coming from the speakers....I know it's not a blown speaker....
It is a constant sound that gets louder as I accelerate, and softer as I decelerate. I can turn the music way up to drown it out but it's still annoying to know it's there....
Anybody got an idea of what that might be?
 
I cant recall the wiring codes offhand. Here is an example of the type of wiring adapters I used:

Those plugs plug dirrectly into the factory plugs that plugged into the back of the factory stereo. The ends of the wires solder up to the wires coming from the AVIC's wiring harness. at least two of the wires shown are for the rear 6X9 aka subs. Im thinking the installer didnt connect some wires, or perhaps didnt use one of the plugs altogether. (assuming one of the plugs is solely for the subs).

As far as your whine descrpition, sounds like typical alternator whine. I didnt have that issue, but usually it has to do with the ground that is used. I grounded my avic to the thick brown ground that the front cigarette lighter uses. Worked for me

Ahh screw it....I'm going to order that harness kit off ebay, and redo it myself....I guess I should be happy that they custom made the dash kit, but either way I got ripped for 300 bucks for the install....

You may want to pull out your head unit FIRST, the check whats back there. If they cut the factory plugs off at the ends, the kit/wiring harness will do you minimal good, 'cept for the wires can be used. If the factory plugs are still intact, then you should be good to go. But then again, if the factory plugs are intact, that means they probably did use wiring harness adapters, and maybe one is just loose?

Either way, there should still be some sort of "warranty" on their work. Why not try taking it back to them first to fix?

They keep giving me the run-around....said the earliest they could get me in is middle of Jan. It's bull:q:q:q:q I know, but I'm impatient n-e ways.....dad always said if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself....I should have done it anyways.....but that's before I found the post " the post is for avic d-3 installs"
 
LOL. Sorry you found that thread too late. I tried to make the subject as clear as possible when I made it, hence the name. :-)

Anyways..good luck. If you need any additional help, just post it here. I'll give as much info as I can.

On..one other thing. To my knowledge, NO one knows exactly..without question..WHICH wire is the VSS wire for the 2000-2002 Lincoln LS. My Avic is working fine without it. Per the manual, the VSS wire helps out when you are on unlevel terrain.ie mountain driving, and assists the GPS sats in those situations. If you normally arent driving in mountains? You dont really need the VSS wire hooked up, IMO. You also dont need to hook up the reverse wire unless you plan to use a backup camera.
 
Oh now I see it!!!

Yeah so I pulled the avic out today and two things happened......one I got really mad, and two I got real happy when I was done.
I started by looking in the trunk, and found the 6x9's and amp everyone was talking about. I was thinking the amp may have a blown fuse or something but I couldn't find one and everything looked fine.
So......I moved on to the unit....after a couple of minutes of messing with it I discovered the problem, or atleast I think I did. Looks like they used a crappy harness to put this thing together. I'm pretty sure the harness to the 6x9's and the two in the center console are not even hooked up. They have only one line going to it, and it's a blue/white striped line that says power antenna. Good news is I'm pretty sure the factory harness's is still intact( comprised of three seperate connectors...right???)
When I order the other harness off ebay I'm going to rewire everything and then I hope all will work....
Oh yeah....I some how got the whining to stop....go figure???
 
Great. Yes, there are three connectors.

FYI..to clarify. Even with all 3 connectors hooked up correctly, you still wont get sound from those two center console speakers. You will need some sort of additional line out converter for those. I opted not to. Sounds fine. Wait until you get those rear 6X9's back in action. I think you will be quite pleased..
 
They just started working?????

Aight, now I'm just really confused......so check this stuff out.
So I'm driving down there road, and I run over a serious of three caution bumps (kinda like the ones you hit on the side of the interstate to keep you awake) while coming up to a stop light, and what do you know my 6x9's started working. I don't think the sound is as good as quality as before but they are definitely working! Anybody got a clue? I'm thinking that maybe the avic doesn't have enough power to push the subs, or something? I don't know but I'm still going to rewire the new harness and see what happens!
 
the avic isnt pushing the subs (6X9's)..the stock sub amp located under the rear deck, is pushing the subs.
 
since it started working you just have loose cables or a bad wire harness try resoldering or crimping the HU end of the wires to the wire harness and try it again, i bet thats it. and by the way the of the 3 oem connectors one of them is solely for the rear amp, it houses 2 wires for the lows, the hot 5 volt wakeup wire and power from the HU. the other small wireharness is for power to the HU and the big connector is for all the door speakers. now it is very easy to troubleshoot this, you know the door speakers are working so you can leave he big harness alone, now that leaves 2 connectors, put your car on run so the HU can turn on and remove one of these connectors if the HU turns off then thats the power harness and the one remaining is for the sub, if you still have the OEM HU use that so you wont blow or damage your HU but i have done this hundreds of times and never had a issue especially since you only going to do ti once.
 
Confused

I hooked up the harness I bought off ebay. Weird thing is that the two center console speakers work, but the rear deck speakers don't. LS Guy you got any thoughts?
