Don't mean to mislead in the title, but I think I've come up with a pretty good solution for having SYNC in our cars. It's not SYNC, but it's pretty darn close.

I recently picked up a Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT & it will do just about everything SYNC can do. It has Voice Command which controls everything from Navi to IPod. You can also use MSN Direct with it although in 2012 it will be discontinued. There are rumors that someone else will pick up the service, but still for $30 you can have the service until January 2012 which is cool since that's when the world ends anyway.:D The other cool thing is I can control everything from my steering wheel including the voice command so that makes it similar to the SYNC system as well.

Like I said it isn't SYNC, but it's very close & it all works GREAT!

yup, i've had a f900bt for over a year now and love it.

How do you like it? I've been in cars that have SYNC & to me it's pretty close. Do you use the voice feature & is it hooked up so you can do it with your steering wheel?

i love it, ive been running modified software since day 2 which make it a lot more usable, and adds a few features,

the steering wheel adapter i have is too old to support the voice button, but i really dont use the voice feature too often, its much quicker to press a few buttons to call somebody or play a song or video, it does work just as good as the SYNC thats in my grandma MKX.

Kenwood is nice, but all the hype about this unit is legit. It's the best unit I've ever had & now I see why it's so popular & so many people like it.

have you been over to Avic411.com to check out what everybody doing to them.

and Pete , yea the kenwoods are nice but you would be lucky if you could get yours to do everything mine can at twice the price, the only thing that i dont like about them is the garmin nav, it just looks too much like a little kids toy with all the bright colors and huge buttons, it would have been alot better if they would have changed the software just a little to better suite the mobile video system.

I made sure to get the 1.6.8 one so voice will work you must have the 1.6.7 version. I kinda disagree about it being quicker to call someone by pushing a few buttons instead saying call home & being done. I just like not having to take my eye off the road & push buttons. For my taste voice just makes things easier & safer.

What have you done as far as modified software goes?

Yes I've been checking out Avic411 quite a bit lately, but it seems the z110bt can really be hacked or anything.

i prefer my kenwood

Kenwood has a remote whereas the Pioneer's don't.
For me that way trumps any shortcomings.
I prefer it to using the steering wheel controls.
I had a bricking up POS F900bt before my kenwood and prefer the garmin navigation with it's graphics and bright colors.

I put an F90 in my wife's LS. Never again will I buy a Pioneer head-unit.

Not true at all as my Z110BT has a remote. True it doesn't come with a remote, but one can be added if you use the WRI-P & the pioneer CD-R510 remote. I use to be a BIG fan of remotes, all I ever use the remote for is to change the track or change the volume which is MUCH easier using the steering wheel controls. The remote was great when back in the 90's.

made the nav clock bigger
it will show what the address that you are at right now for each side show up
changed the fonts
added more color schemes
made my own list of contacts(only the people i call most, and only the names i want to show up on the caller ID screen)
added traffic cams (can be annoying in certain major cities)
added a small compass
updated maps
added POI's
change the tilt angle limit so the so shows in the background (makes 3d mode look more accurate)
added more 3d buildings
added some of the more common menu items to the main map screen(address enter, POI search, home, and cancel route)

and the most important is the MUTE nav voice

theres more im sure, those are just the ones that i can think of

is it the best one out there, nope, but for the $550 shipped i paid, it was definitely the best one with the most features, the bluetooth module for most units is $100 - $200 alone, without voice rec
