I dropped my car off today at Chapman Ford here in Scottsdale AZ (where Max works) to have them install my new Jag TStat housing and also asked them to take a look at my sway bar bushings (have that hollow clunk coming from the front end).

Question: how much would a fair price be for having them replace/repair the sway bar bushings.

Thanks in advance!

I think they only sell the sway bar with the bushings already attached. Should be +-$110 for the bar plus labor.

Welcome to LVC! I see you are in Arizona. I am in Glendale right now, and live in Peoria. You just missed the first AZ LS Meet a few weeks back. We will have to get another meet together and hopefully with the Tucson folks, don't know when though. Hope you can make it.

I see you have a '02 LSE V8, very cool! What color?

Max is great. Good luck.

Awesome, another Zonie! Every time I see someone in an LS around here, I say to myself, "hey, wonder if that guy is on the LVC forums" LOL! Thanks for the reply.

From what I've been reading, the labor is going to kill me...

I'm definitely down for hooking up with you guys for the next LS meet. Can't say it enough... I love my LSE... :) I believe the color be the "Silverfrost" or something.. I'll have to post a pic of it when I get it all cleaned up. :)

You might get out of there for $300. Energy Suspension sway bar bushings are about +-$15 plus $40 -$100 labor and they are greasable. I have them... but thinking of going back and getting the stock sport sway bar with bushings... as the ES bushings are narrower and creaking again, need greased again already.

I can handle the $300... that clunk drives me freakin' nuts. When I hear back from the shop, I'll post and let you know how it turns out.

Next time, get the parts from Max (tell him you are from LVC to get the discount... actually tell him now to get the discount before checkout), but bring the parts back to 21st Ave & Bell Rd Sanderson Lincoln to have them installed... ask for Gwen in service (she's excellent).

Sanderson Lincoln is closer to get to and from your car, and they will give you a ride home and pick you up.

Max for parts.
Sanderson Lincoln "Gwen" for service (have your receipt from Chapman/Max).

Sweet LDM, thanks a ton. I just dropped $320 over at Chapman Ford for:

  • Install Jag TStat Housing / refill / Bleed
  • New Thermostat
  • Check Battery (thanks joegr) checked out fine
  • Diagnose Airbag Light (clock spring - they wanted $426 + tax - told them no)
  • Diagnose hollow clunk (thought is was front sway bars, but it turned out to be the rear tie rod bushings)

All in all, I'm pretty happy. They said that the kit I picked up from Rock Auto was missing 2 of the gaskets, but I don't see how that was the case. It came with two (o-ring type) and from what I gathered on LVC, no sealant or gaskets were required.

Here's the new T-Stat housing: No more leaking. WOOT!

I like that T-Stat housing! I might have to get one of those next time!

When you do the tie rods, get new nuts & bolts too.

Well, the LSE isn't all that clean at present, but you can tell the color. :)

Got 115K miles on it (paid $5K for it with 108K miles). So glad to have gotten that housing thrown in. Now just to clean up the engine compartment a bit... just not sure the best approach...

Nice LSE! The '02 LSE is my favorite out of them all, love the body lines. That's what I wish I had.

I use Meguiars Tire Spray on a tire sponge and wipe down everything in the engine compartment.
(Soap and water the first time with a sponge if needed).
Takes less than 15 minutes.

hard2say very nice LSE and thats not a bad price as well form the either.

I see your LSE has the actual LSE spoiler ;)

Thanks for the tip. Being a computer guy, wires & water don't mix... i assume you mean "sponge bath it up"? :) Light rinse with the hose possibly?

Thanks Manoli! Yah, as far as I can tell, it's the original stuff on this guy. Spoiler included. :)

A cleaner on the sponge (soapy water), not running wet (sponge bath).

I'm a computer guy too: IBM Mainframe System Programmer, along with Servers and Desktops/Laptops (Hardware & Software).

My engine compartment wasn't that bad. I just used tire shine spray a couple times on a tire shine applicator.

Amazon.com: Eagle One 5010602-6PK Tire Swipe, 2-Count Pack of 6: Automotive

I have used a cash wash wand in the engine compartment on other cars, staying away from the distributor.
You could do the cowling and fenders only with the car wash wand carefully (just don't get very close with the wand).

Or, just wipe it down with tire shine twice.
