Not the proper way to do it, but if you want to fully take the lifter out, and examine it, without taking the cams out, or cam caps off, check out this video. Put some tape or something on the end of the screw driver so you wont hurt anything!

will the lifter clear the cam lob to take it out of the motor

Yes, the lifter should clear, just turn the cam until the lobe it's at it's highest point, and it should come out.
