Suggestions On how to smoothen my ride?

Yes i am riding 20s and yes my cars lowered. I AM NOT CHANGING THAT. I dont want to hear any suggestions on changing that. Thanks.


Now if anybody has any suggestions on improvin the smoothness of the ride i am all ears. When i put the the 20s on the ride was decent. Now when i lowered my car on the 20s...it went to $hit. Every crack and bump on the road u can really feel. Fellow passengers dont notice much but i do. This has to do with the lowering. I am not rubbin at all, its just every damn ant i roll over i can feel. Its like the shocks are bottoming out or something.

I am riding on the euro shocks. And was wonderin if i switched to the base ls shocks do u guys think i might notice a smnoother ride?

Are there any shorter shocks that would better fit with the eibach kit?

im having the same problem. not lowered though. car has lately been making a noise in the front right, im thinking of new shocks
 
20s and lowered?
You could tow the car with a comfortable truck.

Mike, you knew there was bound to be one.....
If I remeber right, changing to the base shocks would help improve your ride, but I don't know if it's really worth the $$ Hopefully ken wil chime in on this because I think he has ran many different shocks and he might have the most info on this
 
Yea man, probably the base shocks. I have the sport shocks now on my car and they are a little bit smoother that the euro ones that I have before. Not much though.

How much did it cost u for the install?
 
$612 or so, at the dealer, including everything, alingment and stuff. I think that's pretty cheap, not particularly cheap but good deal.

There is air ride but I don't know how much you'd wanna spend. Thicker sidewall on the tires if you can fit it maybe?
 
Well, considering you are running a 35 series tire, lowered and 20" wheels there probably isn't much you can do other than change shocks. It might help somewhat. You have to realize that the travel on the LS shocks are not very much. I have had the base OEM shocks, Monroe Sensa"craps" and now the sport OEM shocks. I'd say go with the base shocks and see if that helps. You've kind of gone on the other side of ride quality with lower profile tires, 20" wheels and lowered springs. You've thrown the dynamics of the LS suspension into a tail spin.

I agree. I'm betting you have to live with it.

When u lowered ur car, did ur ride get rougher? i expected it to get $hittier when i did it but there has to be somethings u can do to smoothen it out a bit. overall the 20s compared to the 17s i had were almost the same diameter. it has to do with more with the shorter springs. when i just put the 20s on the ride was almost no diffrent than with the stocks.

what are bumpstops? someone suggested me checkin those.

Eibach recommends that the bump stop be cut about 20-24mm when installing the springs. It is stated in the installation instructions that come with the springs. This might be an issue if the person that installed your springs didn't cut the bump stop.

As for the overall diameter of the wheel doesn't matter but the height of the sidewall does. That is one of the best shock absorbers on the car. When I installed the Eibach's in my car I didn't noticed a huge difference in ride. I did notice that the car was more "controlled" than before and hitting certain bumps were a tad bit more noticable.
 
The diameter might be the same but the shear wieght of the rims has incresed, thats a major part of your issue. Too much wieght combined with lowering it equals literally no shock travel left. I wish much luck hopefully someone can help.

if u only change the springs ur going to eventually blow ur shocks which is proly why u feel everything.. can u post some pics of the ride?
 
My ride was stiffer than I like. I needed new tires anyway, so I went with 235/55/17 instead of the 235/50/17. It throws the speedo off, but not by much. Hopefully I'll have my Xcal2 usable with the LS before too long and even that will not be an issue. My ride is now a lot better. Took most of the harshness out and the tires look a lot better in that they fill up the fenderwells. I have tried to make them rub and so far no problems. These are the same size tires I had on my 04 Crown Vic. I was never into the large rim / extreme low profile look. Just my personal preference. :)
 
i loked thorugh ur pics.. do u have a double din with a dvd player under or a huge flip out tv?

I noticed u dont have the grill on ur pic so i would add that.. i couldnt see ur headlamps but u can clear them out if u havent.. i would like to see how the car looks with chrome door pillars.. it says u have em but once again.. no pics.. its hard to tell someone what to do to their car with no CURRENT pics on the car.. maybe u can add a system.. ps2. syrius radio.. reverse camera.. etc..?
 
i have a question regarding to the stock shocks... are they covered under warranty? like premium care? i think mine might be failing
 
yeah my pics are outa date because I am waiting till next week cuz I am getting my headrest monitors hooked up and installin a hard drive in my ride. I will snap pics then. that really has nothing to do with the thread though but thanks anyways.

on the other hand if I change my euros to the base shocks...won't they just blow out again with the shorter eibachs? isn't there a shorter shock that will mtch with the springs.

also what is the point of bumpstops because I gotta alotta bumps I wish would stop. thnks ken.

First of all, the Euro shocks are extremely stiff. You may want to go with either the base or sport shock. I know some people with the Euro shocks and say it's like not having a suspension. As for the bump stop it allows a little more travel for the shock instead of "bottoming" out. I know that Eibach recommends that you cut the bump stop down when you put the Eibach's on.
 
I'd bet it is your front struts.... first, if you don't have a lot of miles on those sell them to a performance guy who isn't lowering - he'll love them and you'll get a nice set of base struts for next to nothing in the trade. As an alternative, if yours have tons of miles you might check on bilstein or top-line monroe models (standard cushioning, those springs will give you enough ride control by themself) to improve the ride.... I'd also be concerned you've lowered to a point where the stock length struts just don't have enough room to do their stuff.

Before you do anything, lower your pressures to 25 PSI all the way around.... might make all the difference.

How many miles?
 
The LS doesn't have struts. It has coil over shocks. I would stay away from Monroe shocks. I had a set on my car and they were terrible. As for other brands, the only other shocks available are the Leda's that I sell. They are fully adjustable so you can adjust them as soft or hard as you like. However, they are not cheap.

Wow is this true? I had no idea changing the springs would blow your shocks.
 
Having reread all the posts....

I'd vote for the following:

1. Check those bump stops! Most likely source of harsh ride - you have no shocks at all when those come into play.

2. Lower those tire pressures to reduce hammering through the skinny rubber

3. Switch those shocks to base from the tighter models.... and why waste money on new ones when there are tons of people upgrading and discarding base shocks on this forum
