I know this probably belongs in a different thread but people don't read the others as much...

I'm thinkin about adding a sub to my audio system... I went around to the local car retailers and they're all about dual 12's... well I don't want that much bass... I'm looking just to fill out the sound... but I know it's a big car... so I was thinking either one or two 10's... I just like the way they sound better... but I've only heard them in hatchbacks... so I was wondering if any of you guys have a sub and what do you think?... I like bass but I'm not about the earthshaking bass... I like my sound to be full... thanks

Ive had 2 10's ever since Ive had a sys, I'm pushing around 1000 watts (but thats a entire sys) i ran with the stock speakers and stock amp, with a small amp and some cheep 10's and it sounded like probably what your looking for, till i blew the interior speakers. 2 10 will work just fine, get a cheep box (sealed for tight bass, ported for bass drop type stuff) and a cheep amp, maybe a head unit for ease of installing the subs

That's cool... yeah I'm lookin at a new HU... tryin to figure out if I want an USB or just aux right now... I have two different MP3 players... but that's cool... I was thinkin of getting some higher end subs... maybe Infinity perfect 10's.. JL or Kicker Comp... I already have the 4 channel amp for the interior speakers... I figure I'm gonna try and get all the stuff together and install it all at once that way it's easier... thanks for the imput!

if you can hold out do it all at once, instead of ripping everything apart twice. it also makes planning your wiring situation much easier

If you get a nicer sub you could probably just run one 10 and throw a fair amount of power to it. People always tend to buy subs in twos but I have heard some really good single sub setups.

BTW in my Trailblazer I have a single Alpine Type E (cheap) running 300 watts rms and it hits pretty hard. Nothing like my Mark, but plenty for someone who's not looking to pound.

Just make sure you get a decent box. You could put the best sub in a crappy box and it will sound crappy. But you could put a not so good sub in a quality box and it will sound good.

It boils down to vehicle acoustics. A sub in a sealed box in an open air environment (in the rear of a supercab truck, in the back of an suv or station wagon. Same sub, same box, same amp in the trunk of a vehicle may not sound as good or it may be better depending on sound insulation, truck size and configuration. Best bet is to find a sub and amplifier that are matched (rms of amp vs continuious power) that is in your price range. Ask the sales dude/chick if it can be demonstrated in your vehicle. They may have a external power supply and audio source specifically for this purpose. I know the ones around here do A sealed box is pretty much a sealed box. Ported premade boxes are a completely different story however. Hope this helps out

I have a set of Fosgate 10's in my mark and I love the way they sound. I have the amp power matched to what the subs can handle and they sound real nice. I am just using the stock interior jbl speakers and my subs don't over power them at all. My personal preference is a sealed box or a ported box the way mtx makes them. I had a set of 12's in a sealed box and switched to the mtx box and it made a world of difference. Sounded a lot better than any other ported box I had heard.
