stumped (keep blowing fuses)

5 and 11, I've gone through about 5 of them now

hitting the brake pops 11, turning on the ac pops 5

suggestions?

before i hit the brake I can turn on the hazards, only one flashes though. If I turn them off then use the blinkers each direction then go back to the hazards they both flash... and the second I tap the brake I hear a nice little pop

Do the tail lights work? It almost sounds like an scil module. Looks like 11 is a 10a that protects the pcm relay, coil drivers, and radio noise suppresors. 5 is also a 10a and protects day night sensor, IC, IP warning display, SCIL

I haven't had anyone stand behind to see if the lights flash before the fuse pops

so i just read up on the scil module, could it also be responsible for the ac fuse blowing?

I looked up diagrams for a 97... I'll look at 93 lol.

okay. For 93. The "brake pressure switch" is protected by position 11 fuse. Pull the connector off the switch and see if the wires are burnt up or the connector itself is causing shorting.. Either the brake switch or the circuitry is causing the fuse to pop. Do a visual inspection of the components and wiring including the high mount stop lamp. My high mount actually fried the socket so check that out too. And position 5 fuse protects the rear defrost.

so before I screw it up, what's the correct way to remove the brake pressure switch, looks to be held in with a pin? Can I just pull that out?

i just fixed mine, was going out and it would not go into gear, check fuses, blown, replaced fuse blew again, xpect mines a 98 and it turned out to be my neon ballast that was shorten it out unpluged it and goes into gear......fkn electronics

Try checking brake light bulb sockets first. That will be the least intrusive visual inspection. And there should be a connnector on the brake switch.

I cannot figure out how to remove the BOO switch and cannot find where the brake pressure switch is

it mentions a recall, how do I determine if I have had the recall done or if it was for my car?

Call the dealer with your VIN and they will tell you if the recall has been done.

the brake psi switch on a 93 is way down under the master cyl, you have to get to it from underneath. take it to ford there is a recall for the switch shorting out and the car catching fire.

pretty sure the recall hasn't been done on this car, havent had the time to take it in myself (I've been disconnecting the battery while away from it)

I changed the BOO switch, that seems to have fixed the fuse popping every time I hit the brake pedal and allows me to use the flashers again. I still have no brake lights, and in order to shut off the cruise I have to get the pedal pretty far down.

do those sound like brake pressure switch related problems?

I was reading that they just place a fuse to the always hot line instead of replacing the leaky switch?

ok so the boo switch was one problem. sounds like the psi switch is leaking and your other problem. as for the recall they put a fused jumper harness between the switch and the harness, if the switch isnt leaking, if it is leaking then you get a new switch

I've figured out the AC problem, one of the wires under the hood on the drivers side (under the wipers and black covers) was shorting.

Still don't have the brake lights but do have cruise and hazards. Cruise shuts off went I mash the pedal in pretty far.

Where is the brake pressure switch on a 93? The car is immobile right now, I'll run it to the dealership when It's put back together, but for now I'd like to have a look at it myself. I'm not sure where it's at, I've just heard that it's hard to get to on a 93.

way down under the booster on the fire wall, gotta see it from the bottom on a 93. my 98 popped the fuse and i lost brake lights, i unplugged it and replaced the fuse and i was good till i changed it the next day at work.

get under there and unplug it and see if you still pop fuses. black 2 wire connector, 2 squeeze tabs on the skinny sides. it will be tied into a brake line/or junction box
