This is so hard to describe I'm thinking about taking a trip down toward galveston to have tommy actually listen to the car, but I'll describe it as best I can.
When I hit the gas I hear a rattle. Like, if I'm taking off from a light there is a rattle for about 1 second, or if I'm going 40 mph and hit the gas there is a rattle (1/2 second). When I say, I "hit the gas" I mean I give the engine a little more than a gradual increase of gas, but not necessarily stomping on the gas peddle. The sound doesn't happen If I am soft footed on the gas peddle.
The reason this worries me is that there appears to be a loss of power. Sometimes a very large loss of power. Engine still revs but the car struggles to go anywhere so my suspicion is the transmission. There is a significant loss of power when going around turns. I know about the tranmission fluid issue in these situations but it appears to be a bit worse.
The history of the tranmission goes like this: I had a shuddering problem when I bought the car. I dropped the pan and put in a new filter and new mercon 5. BUT I didn't drain the torque converter. I planned on getting back to dropping the pan again after a couple hundred miles so that in averages I had changed out 75% of the the transmission fluid. ( or less/more depending on how much of the fluid is kept in the torque converter). So I'm thinking I need to get around to doing this. That's my theory anyway.
You guys think I'm right in my theory or does someone have another idea of what this could be.
(suspension is always a culprit but I've changed the entire front suspension out now excluding the inner tie rod ends.) (very happy with the car handling now with new tires/alignment an all. ...
anyone have any tokiko's they need to get rid of? )
