On my Wifes 1996 Mark VIII the stereo hasn't worked since bought.
I know the original owner and he said it used to work fine. It's a JBL setup ALL factory with the 6 disc in the trunk.

He took it to the shop a block fom his house and had them repair one bad airbag, they then went poking around in the a/r module area behind the glove box trying to figure out what's wrong with the pump no longer coming on.

Since then the stereo does not work at all.

I went to the trunk and someone had the rack down where the amp is. The head unit lights up and all functions work including power antenna and cd changer but there is no music.

I tried Walt's head unit and amp and still NO sound. This is beyond bizzarre.
I then took the left rear speaker wire and stripped it back right off the head unit and touched the wires to a spare speaker and still NO sound?

Is there something I am missing with this JBL set up?

Obviously the shop did something to the sound for whatever reason and they were in the trunk I assume looking for the problem?

Remember I tried two amps and one head unit and nothing???

Any ideas?

When I used to install car audio a lot of ford cars had a second set of plugs in the pass kick panel and sometimes below the radio to the right.Usually they look like the ones that plug into the radio-these are a bypass setup and they usually are attached to a metal peice in the car with those panel type plugs, hope this helps

Yeah this would be the location where these idiots at the shop he went to were poking around.

The harness from the radios does go through that area but I have no idea what if anything they are plugged into.

Im going to see if I can get an entire schematic of that JBL setup. There is power everywhere, the amp, head unit..etc.

Here you go.

WTF? Looking at these diagrams, they don't look right.

According to the diagrams, the front and rear speakers are ties in paralel. According to the diagrams, you can't fade front and rear, but I know for a fact that you can.

i never got that, you can fade front to rear, but the diagrams say you CANT

my buddy at an audio shop said those factory jbl amps are always blowin out... plus he said some headunits come with fuses actually in the headunit itself and if you accidentally cross certain wires or short circuit it somehow they will blow leaving you with no output.. maybe while they were poking around they cut or fussed with the wires causing one of these..

The Bass is tied in together, not the tweeters.

Yep, only the tweeters fade. I never noticed until I listened for it after seeing the diagrams.

As 9_8_L_S_C said, there is a headunit-to-amp harness connector in the passenger-side kick panel. IIRC, it's clipped onto a metal bracket along with another 1 or 2 harnesses. Make sure everything in that area is connected securely and doesn't look messed with.
