Im new and have searched but cant seem to find what im looking for. Is there a way to connect aftermarket amp in place of stock with keeping stock head unit. Sorry if its been asked but cant find it.

You have to buy a loc (Line out converter) and wire it into the radio or factory amps wire harness.

Thanks for such a quick response. with wiring to amp harnes is it going to be wires for all the speakers being converted with loc or does the amp have signal wires going in.

Is this for a subwoofer amp or a 4ch? If it's a 4ch i'd just rewire the whole darn thing.

JBL system?
if so, forget it. the JBL head unit has un-amped outputs and they are hard to deal with.
besides, screwing with a 6 channel, 8 speaker system will give you a headache.

get a boring looking head unit with pre amp outputs.

If you're talking about upgrading the amp to the speakers.. It's easy! If it's a base model without JBL there is an amp on the tray in the trunk. Look up the wiring and take the wires from each speaker and plug into your new amp. I run a 2 channel Alpine amp with both fronts spliced into the Left channel and both rears spliced into the Right channel. Works great. Ill see if i can get you a pic of what I did. I ran a separate power wire, but if i remember correctly there was a constant 12v to the factory amp...

It is to keep the factory head unit in the premium jbl system till i get a good hu. I just bought car and getting a few things in working order before i make it legal. Ill be putting amps in for factory speakers and add a sub. Do i need 2 four channel amps cause of tweeters? Does the factory amp have the cross over built in or is there one sfter the amp going to speakers?

you're opening a can of worms..

don't amp the factory speakers. they'll just pop.

the factory amp has the cross overs built in. and they miss part of the sound spectrum too.

you don't need two four channel amps. but you would probably want component speaker setups to keep the front high mount tweeters separate.

just wait til you have the money to do it all at once.

IF crossed properly, no harm will come to them. I was running my JL 450/4 this way when I first got my car. I have since changed the HU, but only for USB connectivity.

The outputs from the factory HU to the amp are low voltage. You can simply solder RCA ends on them and plug them into your amp. The factory amplifier also processes the signal as well, so unless your amplifier has crossover capabilities, you'll have to use passive components.

The factory amp has a separate channel for each of the "tweeters," while all "mids" are driven off of 2 channels. You can get by with a 4 channel amplifier that will handle a 2 ohm load, but will have no fading.

I will see if I can find the wiring diagram I made and post it here. The good thing is, you can utilize all the factory wiring, aside from power and ground of course.

You can try doing everything you want, but the factory sistem (both options, standart or JBL) is solid-made, every try to change components ends changing the entire system - aftermarket headunit, aftermarket amp & aftermarket speakers. So don't loose time trying, spend it for getting money to change the whole system.

The simplest way to improve the sound would be to add a substage. Tap right into the oem amp input wires, run power and ground and be done with it. A complete rewire is not difficult unless you have zero experience installing. I will say that even for the experienced it is time consuming if done correctly/neatly.

I used a loc tapped into the rear amp for 3 12" type r's 4 years back. The oem speakers kept up pretty well. I wouldn't hesitate putting a small to medium sized sub-stage back there to liven it up a bit.

Trying to get the stockers to work with an a/m amp is a huge waste of time imho.
