Hello,

Is there any advantage to modifing the stock air cleaner box? We all know that cold air is better for your engine, but is the intake tube that goes to the fender much of a restriction?
 
Yes. I have a modified one that's no longer on my car. I've since upgraded to the KKM style. Could I notice a difference by modifying it? A little.
 
Hmmm since people connect a tube from the engine bay to the bumper grille for cold air what if you would lead a tube from the hole for the sound baffle on the box to the bumper grille? Wouldn't that act like a true CAI box and all?
 
Sure, why not. I know March performance used to, or still do, sell a airbox for the mustang 5.0 that replaced the lower airbox with one that had a 3" tube that went behind the inner fender to the foglight hole on the GT. The kit kept the stock upper airbox half.
 
You might want to look at TECH ARTICLE, Modifying the Lincoln LS Air box.
 
What Im talking about, is instead of making a heat shield and routing a tube to it, just rout a tube to the hole in the factory box where the baffle goes.

But the tech section does have a good mod on cutting the bottom of the box. I think this guy is just talking about removing he baffle.
 
Hey, gcwimmer, my air box looked nothing like this! It just had one single baffle tube.

I didn't write the article just suggested he take a look.

As you can see in my signature I use the K&N FIPK.
 
No no I said sorry as in sorry I did not inform that I have a 1st gen V8:D

I was simply hoping that you would have a clue as to why the box is different.
