hello all i have a 2000 lincoln ls with 93k miles. ive been noticing a problem lately when i get in my car and try to start my car the engine will tick tick tick tick then start but ive noticed when i try to start the car but step on the gas slightly the engine turns over and start right then and their what could cause this problem

When you say it goes tick tick tick, do you mean it doesn't turn over or it makes ticking sound as it cranks?

Try turning key to the run position without engaging starter, if it ticks that may be fuel pump building pressure.

If you turn key to start and it goes tick tick with out turning over it may be battery.

Need more information.

Just wanted to chime in. I have a 2000 with 94k and I have the same problem, sometimes I have to hit the gas for the engine to turn over. The whole starting process seems weak. I don't know what it is either, but i'm pretty sure one of these days the smashing the gas to start the car is gonna catch up to me and it wont start at all. Good luck though, I plan on changing my fuel filter and spark plugs soon so maybe that will remedy the situation.

ya steping on the gas isnt all that great. Fuel injected cars shouldnt be better by this but I have had this situation in my old ford pickup but i had low compression in 3 cylinders. doubt thats your issue. but pressing all the way to the floor i have been told resets the fuel system on some fords dont know if this is true on ls' but it will give a jolt of fuel to give it some extra juice.

it makes a ticking sound while it is cranking up.

Again try turning key to run without starter and it ticks that is the fuel pump building pressure, it should stop shortly and then turn to starter it should start up with out pressing gas pedal. Could be a fuel filter or a leaking connector.
