Has anyone that has an aftermarket radio used the steering wheel controls for any other purpose. And do you have the wiring scematic for that plug on the back of the radio. I would like to use one of the buttons for my purge.

You could use a PAC SWI-PS and see if you could figure out a way to make one of the signals work. But remember, the signals out of the wheel switches are just that...signals. Low voltage. You would have to convert that signal to power your purge through some sort of relay or module.

At the radio it is a one wire system that uses a ground reference. Each button represents a resistance that is read at the radio as a deviation from the ground reference. You would not be able to isolate only one button from the radio without isolating all of the buttons.

If using an aftermarket head unit and a swix module you could convert the steering wheel controls (swc) to IR and isolate one button for another function. However you would still have to convert IR.

I am currently using the swc as input to a pc. The pc simply reads the resistance deviation.
