Sorry for not knowing the technical terms and names for these parts. For the last month or so, I have had a dead spot in my steering wheel. I could move the wheel back and forth about an inch with no input to the tires. I finally got underneath and found one bolt that I could tighten. It's the one that connects the U joint to the rack and pinion and also pointed out in red in the pictures. I tightened it the best I could and, ta-da, the steering is fixed!
My question is, should there be a nut on the other end of this bolt? The U joint is obviously threaded because the bolt tightened. It just seems weird that this bolt could just work itself out without having a nut on the other end. I hope someone knows how its supposed to be. Does anyone think its bad that I tightened it all the way? Any suggestions are muchly appreciated.
