I just installed my pain in the ass steering rack this weekend now i have some problems. When i originally lined up both racks old and new the little shaft on the new one the flat notch was turned opposite of the old which in result the steering wheel was upside down now.Now when i turn i hear popping sounds either way i turn all suspension parts are a week old just got an alighnment three days prior to the rack going up.Can some one tell me if i have a bad rack or not the reman was done by some company named cv unlimited. Its stiff as hell just doesnt feel right at all and i got all the air out the system. There is a salvage yard near me that has a used one for 100 dollars.

More than likely the stiffness is caused by the rack and pinion backlash was adjusted to factory specs in the center of the rack (this is also the most worn part of the rack). As you turn the wheel in either direction, the backlash is too small and creates more friction. If the flats on the input shaft were backwards and the rack was centered, then it is a sign of poor quality control. If it were me, I'd remove that rack, get my cash back, get the used one (IF it's in good shape, i.e. no excessive backlash, no torn boots, no rust or corrosion on the rack, no leaks, you get the idea). If that rack isn't good, then get a QUALITY reman one. If you can get one from Ford, I'd do that, however, Ford may not carry them anymore. Check rockauto.com or carpart.com
