Steering issues

2000 lincoln LS
HELP!., Ive been having some steering issues at low and at high speeds. at low speeds i have a hard steering issue, and at high speeds the steering is very sensitive. At high speeds its so sensitive that if im caught off gaurd by a big bump that the jerk in the wheel is almost enough to throw me into the other lane or off the road. I took to dealership a few months back and they say its the power steering pump. I bought pump but never had it installed because after i picked up my car the steering issue seemed to go away. Last summer i had a new rack installed. checked belt and power steering fluid level all is fine. Any ideas ????

Need help asap have to go out of town tomorrow. Also just changed rotors and pads. right side pads had at least twice as much friction surface than the left side. left side had zero

Check on the rack for a sensor that may have a loose connector. I had that same problem on my 95 LSC and it turned out to be that the Electronic Variable Orifice had the connector work itself loose. Not sure if the LS uses something similar, but I would still have a look.

ok thanks, as an after thought, it seems i have a rough idle now since i havenot driven since i got the 04, pulled the maf and it actually idled better, obviously thats not a fix though. i guess its time for coils.

yes i am impatient, ive thought it could be the vaps system, where is the solenoid located?? is there a fuse linked to it??

Update

so took to ford and it turned out to be a left side tie rod end and a binding steering shaft. i guess the u joints on the shafts were worn all to hell and binding sometimes. thatexplained the intermittance of it. so hope this helps somone in the future

Tie rod ends are a common issue. I was just busting balls, I barely play the role of a book burning search Nazi.
