Stearing creaks

The ball joint fixed it. Let me rephrase that, the entire knuckle/ball joint fixed it. The good news is that my buddy at the local shop says he knows a guy working on the process to replace the ball joint without having to do the whole knuckle. I'll keep checking back and let you guys know if he gets it figured out.

Since it has gotten a little colder here my stearing has started to creak when I turn the wheel (obviously). I figured it was just that cold day. But we recently had a warm up and the noise continued. It seems to be getting worse. It basically sounds like a door on rusty hinges opening. You know the classic horror movie creaky door sound.

Any thoughts? Do I just need to get under there and lube the hell out of everything?

Pektel, I know you enjoy the cold up there. We don't have that kind of cold, but you should experience the lake effect snow! :D

I am having a similar problem with my steering. It makes a creaking noise, but it is actually coming from the steering wheel itself. I had my buddy turn the wheel while I was outside of the car and I couldn't hear anything.

Any ideas on this issue?

any new news on the replacement of just the ball joint?

I thought this was a pretty well known fix by now...

I replaced both of my lower ball joints last summer. I bought just the ball joints from Euromarque (I got them on ebay) for $65 each. Then I took the arm assemblies out and brought those to a small shop and they pressed out the old ball joints and pressed in the new ones for only $20 a side. It was all pretty easy and only cost me about $170. And they are going strong still.

fbird18, That's great. PM me their contact info and I will have my local shop give them a call to figure out the details of how to do it.

esalomander, As for noise only in the steering wheel I think that has been discussed before. Do a search for steering and/or squeak and you will probably find it.

mine is starting to creak when i turn the steering wheel left..but not right so hopefully its just the bushings then. But will have to have someone turn my wheel and see if i can hear anything from the outside... hopefully its not that bad..
