Well, my car (2000 ls sport) has recently been having trouble starting up, like it'll hesitate for awhile, then ill like click on the radio, and click it back off, or do the same thing with the ac and itll startup. I dont know its related, but thats the conditions upon which i got it to start a few times.

Also yesterday i started it up, then i put it in reverse, and it stalled on me, so i had to restart. Does anyone have an idea what can be causing this?

Btw, ive had it since august, i bought with about 105k on it, and it only has 107 on it now(i rarely drive it) so im not understanding how this problem can just pop up ><

poor battery connections? Bad ground? Bad starter or solenoid? Start with the easiest and obvious and diagnose from there.

***UPDATE ON PROBLEM***

Went to an honest neighborhood shop that I trust and here's what was found:

First off, the problem continues--on an intermitent basis mind you--that is--the car starts right up sometimes with no problems, other times not, regardless of whether the car is hot or cold. While driving, performance is 100% as normal, no hesitation at all.

The shop was having trouble getting the problem to reoccur (naturally, given Murphy's Law), but it finally did--and here's what they found:

The main code, in their opinion, was the P1260 code (theft detected engine disabled). He said he thinks the problem is with the Passive Anti-Theft System--basically, he says the car thinks it's being stolen every now and then when I try and start my own car! He said Ford has issued a TSB on this...and that basically it's something only Ford can diagnose--or an idenpendent with very sophisticated "Ford" equipement.

Wondering was everyone's thoughts are at this point.

Thanks again in advance for everyone's help.

Best regards,

Neil.

i found this in another thread.. this is my exact problem. Although his car is a Towncar.. is this also a known problem on LS's? And should i go ahead and take the vehicle to ford/lincoln, or try to get in there and work it out myself? Any advice is welcome ... as you can see im not car saavy at all.
