Starter

Normally I would not ask (and yes I searched... a little). But how hard is it to replace the starter? I would usually crawl under and figure it out, but its buried in snow.

I took mine on and off a few times, but the exhaust was dropped.

Is dropping the exhaust something that is needed? I have no cats, so that frees up room. I was able to replace the starter solenoid without much work.

I have off thursday, its going to be very cold out but I think I may attempt replacing my starter. Not going to be fun and dropping the exhaust will not be possible.

It shouldn't be that bad. You will have lots of fun with one of the 13mm??? bolts that's between the engine and the starter body. IIRC a nice long extension might help, and going to it from the front of the engine (as in where the AC compressor is).

I have done it without droping the exhaust.
It sucks but can be done.

I used a swivel and a couple of short extensions if I remember right.
The top bolt is the bad one.
I think I used the swivel close to the socket, and you can move the bolt a little at a time.
Its not a fun job....and less fun in a snow bank.

Ya, thanks for reminding me. I forgot about that. I think that may be how I did that one in the first place.

No very fun.... but it is very doable...

The one I did was on a car with a massive oil leak and everything was covered in oily grime and crap... that was awesome!
