I was watching the Space channel the other day, and couldn't Resist the charm and excellent writing of The Next Generation crew, that I had to sit and watch the whole episode, even though I have seen it many times.

For myself, I grew up with that series- The next Generation. I also watched Deep Space Nine and loved it.

What was your scifi growing up? (I realize some here may have grown up with The Original Series) Was it Star trek, Star Wars, or a different sci fi?

The original star trek repeats on TV, the copies weren't interesting to me.

Star Wars first three movies in the theater were amazing. Add in the Indiana Jones series and the '80's were pretty cool for a kid.

Star Trek was the best. It took me almost two seasons to warm up to TNG (too many primary characters and no chemistry). I never liked DS9; the whole allure of the series was the travel to other worlds. I thought Battlestar Galactica was a ST ripp-off; and not a very good one.

Star Trek had too many "firsts" to not be the standard. I was SOOOOOOOOO in luv with Lt. Uhura!

The best Sci-Fi movie........ Forbidden Planet.

If this thread is actually popular, I may have to sell my LS.... Just sayin :confused:

I gotta go with Star Trek TNG. DS9 was good towards the end. Voyager...eh. Enterprise, no.

Star Wars is all good in my book too.

I liked Star Wars but was definitely a Star Trek TNG fan. Q is my favorite all-time character. Something about a God-like character acting Bohemian that appeals to me. Perhaps if it was a different actor I wouldn't have liked it as much. The original Star Trek just seemed too much like cowboys in space to me. I did like the movies though.

Really didn't care for DS9 too much although it was interesting to see more backstory on other races. Voyager I thought was decent and I just pretend that Enterprise never happened. Much like I pretend that Episode I didn't happen too.

I guess the biggest thing I like about TNG/Voyager versus Star Wars is the plot is less black and white. Star Wars, since it's a movie, doesn't have the same flexibility as ST to wander around.

I liked both very much. I like the original Star Trek series and movies better then the Next Generation, I just couldn't get into it.

I was happy as a kid to have seen Empires Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi and Star Trek 3 and up on the big screen.

I still have a huge binder full of playing cards, all in mint condition.

Add in the Indiana Jones series and the '80's were pretty cool for a kid.

You got to see Indiana Jones in theaters? Im actually very jealous.. I love going to theaters. Theres no experience of watching a movie unless its full of people, popcorn in the air, and a massive screen + THX!! But Indy in theaters.. awesome

Q is my favorite all-time character.

Q !!!!! Jon de Lance did a fantastic Job. His character portrayal - his God like powers yet his fascination with the humans and Picard - made for too many funny scenes.

One thing I think added substance to star Trek, was the Borg, in TNG. The first time they fought them, and Picard and crew got knocked off their high chair from thinking the Enterprise being so powerful and all mighty - and the Borg basically belittled them and made them defenseless.. soo easily too..

ST-NG 4 me! Enterprise was poorly written. BSG was half-baked. Star Wars in theater was awesome! Star Trek movies were excellent. Most current TV programs are an insult to the average intelligence, unless you were educated in the last 25 yrs. We just elected a President by the lowest level of informed voters in the history of the USA! Neither candidate was worth a damn!

I like 'em both, but ST, in any of its incarnations, is my preference. Even the much-maligned Enterprise had its moments (the Mirror Universe episodes near the end of the run were pretty damn good), and TNG's The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 is one of the high water marks of TV. I watched that episode when it first aired on a 13" B&W tube TV, and I still remember being completely sucked into it.

Plus, ST doesn't have Jar Jar Binks. ;)

As for best sci-fi movie, that'd be Serenity. :D

Didn't expect to see this go past the second post. lol.

Wrath of Khan, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders at the drive-in were all good, speaker clipped on your window for stunning audio

The character Q from TNG reminds me of something you might see from future Avengers films (for any of the comic book fans: beyonder cosmic cube, Thanos, etc)

I grew up with Star TrekTOS, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and Buck Rogers, and judged them by the hotness of the women. My favorite by far was Erin Grey in Buck Rogers. Leia was a total wannaba-man beeotch which was completely unattractive, there weren't really any women in Battlestar Galactica, and Kirk was banging another one in every episode. I wanted to BE Kirk, only in Buck Roger's world. :D Oooo baby!!!

Besides, Star Trek was far more realistic than the other ones. It's almost as though Gene Roddenberry was actually seeing the future, especially since a lot of the "advanced tech" described then is actually turning out to be real. Even the warp drive is starting to look like a possibility as scientists have actually tracked particles that have moved faster than light AND they are working out how it happens and trying to figure out how to control it. Then there's the Aussies, who are working on teleportation and actually expect to be able to transport an object the size of an apple across a room. I read about this about 5 years ago, and they said that they'd have an apple across the room by now.

LOL ~ they really aught to start running some reruns on TV, I'd watch it all over again.

Haven't notice, wasn't looking for it and I'm on a different Sat system here in Canada with different channel line ups.

As I have discovered, Space channel 4 P.M. weekdays. They don't appear to be playing it during the Holidays tho (or their standard line up) if you go to their site and see their next showings.

hmmm, Space channel is part of a theme from Bell Expresvu that I don't have,
we already have 5 theme packages plus HD channels so that's enough garbage paid for.

not too worried.

i love both trek and the original trilogy of star wars. my favorite one was DS9 cuz it was not a real st show. it was the first time that the series had a buildup to a ultimate end of the show most st show the episodes really stand alone. the last 3 seasons of ds9 where the best and enterprise was good in the last 2 seasons.
