Like the title says. I can't shift into 3rd in SST. It wont ship up to 3rd from 2nd and it skips 3rd down shifting from 4th to 2nd. Didn't find info on anything similar.Any ideas?

Is there a computer that controls the shifting in SST? or is it a direct control to the Shift selenoids in the Tranny?

Yes, it has to go through the computer. There is no way to directly control the solenoids due to the timing required.

I've heard of one that wouldn't go into second or fifth. That was a bad servo.

You'll need a Ford specific code scanner to read the transmission trouble codes.

You can't do it at all, ever? I have had this happen to me about a half dozen times in the year I've owned my '05.

Each time it would shift normally if I took it out of SST, and if I pulled over, shut off and restarted the car, the problem was gone. I usually had a "hard" shift right before it stopped going into 3rd. Hasn't happened in a while tho.

I searched too and didn't find much. I saw a thread that mentioned something called a microswitch, but I have no idea.

Knowing what I do now, Id listen to Joegr

lol yeah. I'll see if it wears off maybe it was just a one time thing but if not I'll take it to the dealership.

It just happened last night for the first time. I dont drive it much on sst cause the tranny shifts hard and jerks more on sst. Will probably use it alot more when I get the tranny fixed and shifting smooth.

Just a little update, started the car a little bit ago and it shifts into third again. I should've turn it off when it wouldn't shift last night but it was really late. Thanks for the info guys
