sst swap

hi everyone i have been pokin my head in and out of here for a month or 2 since i got my car. so now seeing how noone can come up with a straight answer on swaping the 5r55 for a manual trans, i have decided to figure out how to convert my car to sst for now. 00 ls8 with just the straight auto. it is to my understanding that it is just a different shifter but is the pcm already programmed for this? if that is the case life would be good. if anyone would like to drop some info for me that would be great. thanks in advance.

not sure what you mean by 'straight answer' on the manual trannie - there is no conversion, no bolt-on swap. So you can take any trannie you want, build a custom bellhousing, build new drive shafts, swap in a clutch, pedal, cabling, and then re-flash the PCM to take out the auto-trans stuff. It's a big, expensive, not many DIYers, type of job - that's why no one have done it - yet.

that is what i mean by straight answer lol very well said i have been looking all around for that answer but the last thread i read that was close to that turned into a topic on lightweight flywheels. so shifter and thats it... perfect ill have to contact that torrie person when i come up with the cash. thanks alot i really appreciate the "quik" response. as you know being a standard shift guy going to straight auto my left foot and right hand are getting bored so this is one step closer

Here is what the Lincoln tech needs to do:
Here's the proceedure, as used by a Lincoln dealer shop foreman:

Plug the car into the WDS,
-When the WDS asks if the displayed vin is correct, enter "NO"
-When prompted for the correct vin, enter the car's vin (yes, I know it's the same vin, but the computer has already forgotten what vin it displayed)
-A menu of calibrations will pop up. Select the 50 state version of the sport calibration.
-Your installed SST shifter will now function correctly (as in you'll have D4).

Does this apply equally to the V6 as well as V8 cars? I think this would be a fun upgrade.
