SST Shifting

Just wondering on the 1st Gen. LS with SST if it downshifts automatically when stopped ? I figured it might be different than the 2nd Gen. seeing that the 2nd Gen. also changed the ability to start in 1st gear.
 
Yes it does, but you have to be almost completely stopped, to 2nd gear only though

I think it'll shift if your down to about 2-3 mph, and i notice it only downshifts automatically if your in 4th or higher, but that sucks that it only goes down to 2nd. Doesnt the engine feel bogged down if you start from 2nd ?

Not really, but not as active as in first gear.

Just pin it... it'll drop down to first :D
 
I have noticed that it downshifts while in 3rd but sometimes seems to stick and stay in that gear. I dont know if there is a reason for it such as the speeds or RPM's or not.
 
60% throttle drops it into first... I think starting it in 2nd evaded the gas guzzler tax.

Yeah, if I'm in 3rd/SST and come to a stop, it will stay in third. From 4th and 5th it kicks down to 1st. :confused:
 
These transmissions are just flat out weird I guess. I have seen mine go down to 1st but then bump back up to 2nd never actually allowing me to start off the line in 1st.

I can also give the pedal a quck tap with less than 60% for it to drop into 1st, but doing that is kinda pointless.
 
When in SST and you push it over 60% it drops to 1st, then if you slow down, but not stop you can manually select 1st, but if you are completely stopped it goes to the 2nd gear.

The SST is a good idea, but the Lincoln had to look at other cars before they let LS out of the factory. I do understand that the tranny has to make 2 shifts in order to change from 3rd to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd, but that hard and slow shift is just unacceptable. After every time I drive our 330i and use the steptronic, I just can't not give credit to Germans, it's so smooth and quick, up or down, any gear.
 
Thats true. He fixed my 02 so that it would get first in SST. It was a european calibration or something. He said that it wont work in every car though.

Mine too works great.

D5 takes off in 1st. Standing on the gas in D5 then quickly moving the shifter over to SST allows for 1st gear take off and use of SST to shift. Kinda a pain but thats how I ran at the track before the tune fix.
