SST 1st gear launch...

Pektel: I just ordered one from ILLS.... I am chompin at the bit waiting until I get mine. I just installed the Magnaflow exhaust and I have an intake on the way. I should be good to go once I get the SCT..... I need the SST start in 1st....

i think the 2nd gens have first gear sst, the first gens can be tuned to have it. As far as I know only ILLS does that, but idk for sure.

Man i think i need to get one of these how much does one of these things cost exactly? and does it cost anything for ILLS to do anything...what kind of millage increase is there roughly normal driving wise lol.....just wondering

each codes from ILLS is supposedly 50 a piece then about 400 for a brand new Xcal. Choice is yours. I'll get one from ILLS once I get in my 2003-2005 LSE grille and my stainless intake tube.

OK so Im obviously not ILLS, but let me see if I can shed some light on the subject. SCT mandates that their dealers give programs with their programmers. I dont think they mandate how many, but tunes come with a new unit. You dont need more than one tune unless you are running a dry shot of nitrous. One tune will give you both power and economy.

As far as price and such, that depends on what you get. SCT makes more elaborate devices than the XCAL, but the XCAL is the most common way to go since it will do everything the avg person needs. I believe it is priced just under 400.

Your power and mileage will depend on a few things. Different cars are more or less out of whack, so tuning gets more or less depending on the stock form. The tune itself effects the gains. Some tunes are "hotter" than others. The more work you've done the hotter a tune your car can handle. That being said I believe both ILLS and Torie are good at assessing cars and the needs of the user.

sorry to hijack thread pete!

While I agree with most of what you said:

Yes stock 2nd gen does start off in 1st using SST.

Torrie does fix the starting in 1st on the 1st gen LS.

The statement "you don't need more than one tune" is just your opion. I received 3 included tunes from Torrie, while I use just the one tune for my daily driving I like having others for when I'm in a area that is at sea level and where 93 gas is available. My daily tune is for my area; high altitude and 91 gas.

"I believe ILLS and Torrie are good at assessing cars and the needs of user" is bang on. The only way to do better is local tuner done on a dynamo.

as for needing more than one tune.... I was referring to not needing an economy tune and a power tune. And to be honest, do you really need a 93 tune to get the gains? Not so much. Maybe if you really want to get the most out of it while driving in that area. But running a 91 tune will still be leaps and bounds ahead of stock with 93 in the tank.

local dynos may be worse..... The LS is a rarely worked on car. I wont let the local yahoos touch my car. I'd rather pay to fly my tuner up here! Its a matter of finding the right person to tune your car. Live custom tuning is the best no questions asked.

i think for the most part though we both agree on most everything!

You'll love it!

Tunes are 50 from ILLS. that's if you already have an xcal, and just want one of his tunes. IF you were to buy a new unit from him, the Price of the unit includes a couple custom tunes, which can't be written until you receive the device, and read your strategy code.

No problem. It was kindof a pointless thread to begin with. :D

I'm in Reno, NV and 3.5 hrs I'm in San Francisco at sea level, again my tune is for high altitude with advanced timing and 91 gas, with tune at sea level I get a knock even with auto adjust timing unless I switch to 93 gas which is hard to find in CA and why I load one of my other tunes.

Absolutely right about being able to doing worse, but a local tuner on a dyno would be the way to go at extra cost for a live dialed in tune.

I'll go so far as to say that with the level of the remote tuners for these cars and the lack of experience in the tuning world that unless you are doing something out of the ordinary (requiring upgrading fuel injectors or maf sensors etc), you are better off staying with one of the guys on here.

ILLS and I are getting ready to do some data logging and adjusting to my NA tune. However, when I asked him about it he outright told me its not worth my money (or his time) for the gains I'd see. We are thinking about doing it only so I know how to read the data and know what needs to be done for when I need to fine tune the program for my turbo. Its saying something when the tuner turns down or steers work away because of the lack of gain! My tune from ILLS is a pretty hot tune, but its still a prepackaged one he has for these cars. That speaks volumes for the level of tuning from him.... and im sure torie is up there too based on customer reviews of the two. If you were to trade in one of these tunes that is THAT good for a local tuner on a dyno, you may get better hp and afrs but lose out on the transmission experience that really makes these tunes worth while!

One thing to watch out for with local tuners is the rates may have an additional 200 bucks for the code. After talking to a few SCT guys it turns out that this isnt a scam or anything. They need to buy the "box" to program the code. In a word, they've never worked on these cars.

I'm very happy with my email custom tunes and in no need of a dyno tune for my use, but to paint a broad negative statement about local dyno tuners is purely subjective and I just prefer not to go that route.

im just pointing out the need for caution with local tuners and that the level of remote tuners is MORE than likely beyond sufficient.

any one had v6 tune?

im looking at this catalog i have. it has

SCT livewire PreLoaded Ford vehicle flash device.

and it says LINCOLN LS 00-06 +17hp +17ftlb tq .

no price tho just part numbers in this catalog id probably have to call them. is this worth it?

sct's numbers do not reflect the numbers of the actual tuners

I dont know about torie, but ILLS was looking for V6 guys to do some tuning on

well depending on pricing and shyt im down LOL. ILLS where u AT!!!!!! lol

I think he was looking specifically for v6 manual transmission guys.

ouch/...way to kick me in the nuts via internet. lol...im 2001 V6 auto sport. kkm intake . planing on magnaflow and rims asap. and was just wondering about any tuning i can get.

:Beer

this is kinda off topic of the tune but ... anybody hear of a turbov6 LS ??? i remember looking at the "centrifugal supercharger " or whatever but idk i dont think anyone actually did it.....:shifty:

edit) im an idiot i didnt click ur link LOL...thanks for that thread man...

Interesting thread. I am a new LS owner, 2002 V8. Is there anyone in Northern California, particularly the Sacramento area, that does this tuning? I mainly want the trans mods, but can't justify spending $3-4 hundred bucks for the gear.

Any help?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you need the gear to upload the tune to your vehicle.

An option is to buy one used. Just make sure the unit is set back to stock. You should be able to get one in the 200 dollar range, then it's about 50 bucks per tune.
