Has anyone run into this issue, i searched the forum but couldnt find anything on point....

I started up the car one day and all of the sudden the following is not working:

  • Odometer - mileage no longer displayed; a bunch of dashes now appear for both the trip mileage and overall mileage

  • Speedometer - does not work

  • ABS/Parking Brake/Tractional Control - all 3 of these indicator lights are on and remain on

I took it in to the mechanic and was told it was going to be costly...they would need to remove the instrument cluster and run some more tests. also said the replacement part needed is over $1k...then one of the electronic boards would need to be sent to Ford to be soldered.

The mechanic said this is a common problem from what he's seen with the LS's and Jags on this system....has anyone else encountered this problem?

any ideas for a cheaper fix? quoted over $2k...maybe junk yard for the "part" needed...any good news please! thanks for your help.

Why not just buy a used cluster off ebay if that turns out to be real problem, for like 100 bucks. Even if the cluster needs to be reprogrammed at FORD be cheaper then what they are telling you. But others here might know cure 100%.

You have received some very bad advice. The symptoms that you describe indicate that the VSS is not working. This is not a cluster issue. This is an ABS module issue. You need to go to someone who actually knows something about the LS to get this fixed. It's not the Cluster! The ABS module generates the VSS from the four wheel speed sensors. You may have multiple failed wheel speed sensors, a bad ABS module, or a wiring problem.

Thanks Joegr!! interesting, would you just recommend going to dealership? i woulda thought they would be more expensive, but they know what they are doing i guess

are the modules/speed sensors or wiring a costly fix? any idea or ballpark how much? sounds like maybe you've gone through this...thank you

Get it diagnosed at the dealer. It's less expensive than throwing the wrong parts at it.
If it is the ABS module, it will be very expensive to fix at a dealer.
