Ok,

Mark VIII have some performance, and I know many of you have taken yours to the strip and have found out how quick they can do a 1/4 Mile. Very impressive.

Today my buddy (yes I know I refer to him often and yes this is his question not mine), but today he had to get from Boscobel to Rochester MN. He had an appointment at the Mayo Clinic.

He is notorious for being late (Bryan will associate with that LOL), His appointment was at 9:00 am it would be canceled if he was not there before 9:00. He got up at 5:00 pm it is a 4hr drive from Boscobel. So if no problems he may make it.

Once he got to Interstate he set the cruise control at 110 mph. He got there at 8:35 am.

So where is this long story going? His question to me was what top end have your buddies on line taken their Mark VIII up to? And at what speed with they cut out.

Now I am not suggestion to go find out but just if some of you in that moment of reckless abandon top ended your Mark VIII what did you get?

My limit is 117 mph in my 97. Chip is coming soon, though.

you might want to look at the "timeslips' page -- which can be found above on the nav bar ----- here is a link to it

Speed governor is usually around 125mph or so, although I've only taken mine up to about 115mph. But rumor has it that with a chip, and maybe a couple small mods, that these things will do around 160mph. I sure believe it... the faster you take these things, the more it asks to go even faster.

Non LSC models it is 130 and LSC models are 135MPH. I have had my green one TO the speed limiter and above (well....not above, because I hit the limiter, and it did it's job......), BEFORE I had a chip in it. With the chip, I have had it to 140MPH+.

The purple one I have, I have had it up to 120 - 125 MPH......but not to the speed limiter.

Make sure when you get the chip, that you have them remove the speed limiter.....most chips (unless you state you want it removed) will not remove them, but raise them.....to 140ish.....so make sure you ask to have the speed limiter removed....or bumped a bit higher than 140.

Thanks for the info. I knew that my limit was lower than others I've seen posted, but it's very consistent. There's a 2 1/2 mile straight stretch of rural highway by my house that I punch about every other week or so when there's no traffic.

My CTS chips at 143mph according to GM.
My speedometer will read just above 145mph (not really sure why the speedo goes to 165) when the electronic limiter steps in, but GM is probably right as my navigation system clocks the car at 144.

Those Marks only go to 117 stock? That is cruel and unusual if you ask me...

I believe the limiter is set around 120-125 because of driveshaft vibration at high speeds. After-market shafts that eliminate vibration are a common upgrade for Mark VIII's.

If I am not mistaken,
The speed limiter is there for the speed rating of the stock tires.

The speed limiter is there to prevent morons from going any faster on the street.
