speed control 94 mark

Thank you Max,
The harness they have plugged into my car goes from a switch on the actual big black brake booster housing (it's plugged in the spot to the right of the master cylinder, I marked it in red in the same picture below so you know where I'm talking about,) and I'm not sure where it goes on the other end. I'll try to get a pic of it for you if you want?

My Ford shop manuals show it in the same spot as your picture... I'm really confused now though as I don't know what the switch is in the fenderwell that I unplugged (the cruise stopped working when I did too!) or if there's one under the master cylinder (that I haven't seen yet.)

I don't know how to approach the dealer on this as I've already asked twice about it and they insist it's done right.
I think in another post someone put up here, I was joking around saying that any dealer should be able to do this as it's so easy, but maybe I spoke to soon, lol... :(

according to the gen 1 and gen 2 wiring diagrams and parts catalogs.....the cruise control deactivation switch (sw in question) is in the wheel well on the gen 2 and under the m/cyl in the pressure valve on the gen 1. The 2 recalls on this concern does not tell you where the sw is just to check it to see if it is wet or dry then take the appropriate action to correct the concern. The switch in the gen 1 wheel well is ???? do not know yet...still researching that one. it might be to one for the computer to see a need for more idle like a p/s press sw??
The pic above is for the gen 1.
Max

Mines definately a gen 1 ('94) ;) The documentation I have on the recalls says the switch is in the wheel well for the '94 specifically with no mention of later years in one document, and '94-98 is under the fenderwell in another document. Both docs say to disconnect the steering shaft etc from underneath for the '93's.
They say the Brake Repair Kit (SCDS & Adapter Harness) is the same '93-95 (XW7Z-9F924-BA), and a different # for '96+ (1L1Z-9F924-AA)
I don't know how recent any of this info is though.

I wasn't able to check today under the master cylinder, but will get to it this weekend as I have to change my plug wires. I'll try to get some part numbers of the harness and pics...

runs outside with camera
ninja edit:
ok 93 are the only ones under the master cylinder like max posted
94-98 are all in front of the pass front tire, they just found something that the plug fit :slam:
heres the adapter harness/car harness pulled down on my car (note sway bar/strut rod) and the second pic is mine with the revised switch bottom right of pic. mine was a leaker so i got a new style switch and an adapter but if your isnt leaking the harness goes between the car end of the connector and the stock switch. print out the pics and raise hell

I know where the switches are, thanks though chicken :) , but the harness is not in any of the spots as I mentioned in my post with the picture, it comes off the brake booster (the red dot.)

Hey, chicken, do you have a pic of your brake booster or can you tell me if you have any kind of switch in the red dot location? Thanks!

I know it's not supposed to be related, but it's where they put the harness. The brake booster:

yeah i know what your talking about but i dunno what its for off the top of my head, but its NOT the cruise

I dont see anything under my master cylinder other than the fender, a wiring harness, and brake lines going under the car.

As for the booster, this is the haness on mine. It goes from the switch on the red dot in the other pics Max and I put up, and goes into the wrap with the wires from the level indicator on the res., and from there to ?:

No one else has a switch here or have the recall done here??? Anyone know what that switch is for?

thats the wrong place, if its under the master cylinder you will not see it from above, shiryu0 had his done and they did the same thing that was done on yours, he took it back and they corrected it, just take it back and demand to talk with the service manager and tell him its wrong and demand them to look it up and show you where it goes on a 94 markviii

That switch on the booster is called a travel switch and it's to do with the ABS pump. Give the dealer this info, Icarus, so that they can't feed you more BS.

Here's the Ford manual description: (taken from my 1993 book - Brake System, Anti-Lock - section 06-09-5)

If brake pedal travel exceeds a preset dimension determined by the pedal travel switch setting, the ABS module will send a signal to the pump to turn on and provide high pressure to the brake system. When the pump starts to run, a gradual rise in pedal height will be noticed. This rise will continue until the pedal travel switch closes and the pump will shut off until the pedal travel exceeds the travel switch setting again.

Only the 93 has the switch below the master cylinder

heres a good pic of the deactivation switch, pic borrowed from yet another recall fukk up thread (http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=39977) that is the switch location on all 94-98 markviii's
Yes, that looks like mine to. I was going by the info we had as I mentioned about where it should be according to the manuals in hopes the dealer might be right. Obviously they and the manuals are wrong. Thanks for the great picture of the location :)

That's also where I said this:
Every dealer should get it right as this is one of the easiest fixes a dealer will ever have to do.
lol...

Yes! Thank you! I've been scanning through my manual on another computer tryingto figure out what it is for, now I can make sure but it looks like you nailed it!

As I mentioned I know this, but we are trying to figure out what the switch is for that '93 Blue found out and if indeed the dealer did it wrong, which it does look like they did.

ps: I got an email directly from Ford Canada today asking me to call them about this, so will let you know what happens with that too. At least I have some great info to help me here :)

I didn't have time to call Ford today. I'll try them tomorrow.

I found that switch '93 Blue was talking about in the evtm, the 'C186 anti-lock brake pedal travel switch'. At least I know it is safe now :)

According to Ford Canada, the recall was done correctly and they back their dealer fully. I asked what I can do now if I still think it's wrong and they said to go to my dealer and ask, lol!
I told them if it is done incorrectly, and there is a fire, it could kill me and people around me, and they will be responsible heavily as they didn't do it correctly, and they said "we'd worry about that then if it happens"...
Makes me never want to buy a Ford product again if they don't care if their vehicles kill people due to a simple recall not done properly...

Well, I went to the dealer again this evening and talked to a few of the parts guys I know, whom told me they had a new(er) service manager, and we talked with few of the service guys, this newer main service manager, and the parts guys. They all agreed after seeing these pictures, their own checking, and documentation that it was done wrong (which we knew this already!). I have to bring the car in for them to fix it properly... Now if I could let Ford Canada know how wrong they were...

Took the car into the dealer today to have them correct the recall. They let me in the shop to watch (I'm sure the tech loved that, lol) They replaced both the switch and harness at my request. So it's all done now and seems right this time. :) I think some of them were more interested in the chase taillights than anything, lol...
Thanks Max, '93 Blue, chicken and eveyone for the help!

yeah ford canada fell on their face send them a link to this thread. what happened to the customer is always right?

Cool - glad it got done right! Makes me wonder how many other vehicles have been incorrectly done by moronic dealers like that...
