on my Town Car I did compression check last night and after I got everything back together I took it for a test lap around the block. I knew there were only 2 threads holding the plug in on cyl 3 and when I put the plug back in it, it tightend up. But I was a little more gingerly with the tourqe because of the damaged threads.

Well a soon as I gave her 1/4 throttle it poped out so I limped it home but was unable to reinstall because of the threads. The local shop says they will look at it but dont know if they can fix it.

So.... My question is has any here done a helicoil/time sert with the head still in the car? As soon as northern opens up I'm going to check and see if they have a kit. This is my only car so a solution has to be completed soon. (the mark is buried behind a few ton's of snow.)

Thanks

That is how the life of my 1993 Mark VIII with 250,069 miles ended. :( It shot the spark plug out of the engine while I was driving. The head cracked on my car, and that was the end. Hopefully that isn't was happened to your car.

Yes, I could have replaced the head or the motor, but the repair costs on either of those options would have been more than the value of the car.

Well, I found one kit within a 25 mile radius. Took about an hour to do in the cold. It was just a tap and a few coils, but I just used the short coil.

-Took the tap and coverd it with grease to catch the metal pieces.
-Cut a few threads then cleaned the tap, repeated 3 times till I got enough threads to hold the whole coil
-Grabbed a new plug (autolite 764) coated the threads with antiseze
-Screwed the coil over the plug and put red thread locker on the coil
-Put plug/coil in socket with a locking extension, gently screwd in un till snug
-Put COP back on, bolted down and fired up the motor

So far so good. I willjust have to drive and see. Hopefully the thread lock grabs the head and I can pull out the plug for future jobs.
