0113--Intake Air temp.. circuit
0102--Baro or Maf/vaf sensor condition
1518-- throttle actuator control module performance
0171--trim bank 1
0174--trim bank 2

I noticed my car having a rough idle so I had the codes read.

Got under the hood afterward and found the bottom part of the air box was not screwed in tightly, but that's all. Inspected the intake tube for cracks, shot the MAF sensor with cleaner and put it all back together. Still runs rough.

Anyone know where to go to from here? I've done seafoam within the last year but haven't gotten behind the heads to try to move that IMRC plate actuator... gunna try tomorrow.

Whoa... so that's where those IMRC's are.

Did you try to unplug and replug the mafs and just cause you cleaned it doesn't mean you fixed it
Also did you reset the computer
Tap on the iac lightly with a hammer when its running bad

Yea, unplugged the mafs and re-connected it.

Didn't reset the comp. I'm going by orilly's later to have the codes removed.

IAC is less than a year old but guess that doesn't mean anything. I'll try it.

Got my hand behind the passenger side and moved the IMRC plate.. couldn't get behind on the drivers side... I'll have to take the cowl off first.

I'm throwing 0113 too, I'm going to take some stuff off and look at it real good then put it back together and prat that it works.

The air intake sensor, if its the one I think the code is for, is easy to replace and cheap. Its its off then it could make the car think the MAF is off. But I think you already realize that one thing is probably causing all these codes. Bugger.

What year? The gen ones are notorious for the intake tube not seating right or the rubber seal going bad where it connects to the throttle body. And then there is that evil t-fitting of rubber that cracks and falls apart.

Yea, I'm having the issue with the intake tube seal being bad. Noticed when I took it off it's ripped all along one side. The t-fitting I fixed right when I got the car with brake hoses from autozone.

So are you saying the MAF is bad or something else. I thought MAF's were expensive.

edit: btw: didn't get the codes cleared but the idle seems to be much less stumbly. :D

Not saying the MAF is bad. But a vacuum leak can cause all sorts of trouble and make the car think things are bad.

Well, stumble is back. Crud.

Maybe the intake tube gasket is causing a leak but I doubt it. The plugs are about 20k old new boots...4new cop's (oreilly) injection cleaning, seafoam about a year ago. Its a 97 lsc... really need to put that in my sig or something.

Second gens dont have an intake tube gasket. If yours appears to have one then its cause your intake is fuuked. ANY vac or intake leak will cause the car to run bad. Fix that first.
Replace the IAT sensor. Its in the intake tube. If it dont work right then the MAF wont work right. In order for the car to know how much air its injesting it needs to know how much the MAF heated wire has cooled. In order for it to properly calculate that it needs to know what the intake temps are.

BTW, your car has to be the single most problematic Mark I have ever heard about.
Sell it. There is a clean 96 LSC in Dallas for $2000.

Laser, ya sure about the intake tube gasket? For my project I picked up a Gen II tube and it had one. It was not in the best shape and I ordered a new one from Ford. A worm clamp secured both the gasket and tube to the TB.

But knowing its a Gen II also means that its less likely the connection. Its pretty hard to fudge that interface. On a gen one, its easy to misalign.

I cant be completly sure and could be wrong. I dont have one to check against right now. I dont remember ever seeing a seperate rubber piece though.

It's not really a boot, but a sleeve, and it doesn't effect the fitting, it slides over the outside of the intake tube at the TB, and then the clamp goes over it.. It's mainly a vibration buffer for the clamp

There's a 97 at a junk yard here and I'm going to go rip everything off.. including the air filter box and replace it.

If it's there.

Weird. I was pretty sure it sealed over the edge of the tube. I still have the old one laying around I think.

Hmm, guess it does seal the inside too...and mine is torn :-(

So the 2 marks that were in the junk yard here are gone. :(

So.. I took off the MAF / Intake tube and cleaned everything up (maf cleaner) ... cleaned contacts.

I gotta try hitting another junk yard here... but I have a question. The car stumbles but the RPM doesn't stumble. Why would it do that?
