First of all, your radio has to have a remote.
1) black = ground
2) red = accessory
3) connect white wire to pin 14 or 15, bottom right side when looking at factory plug, wire color in radio harness should be Lite blue/Red. Do not cut violet wire. Do not cut brown wire.
4a) Do not connect blue wire, you do not have steering wheel heater controls.
4b) Do not cut the brown wire
4c) Do not cut the violet wire.
Check to see if your radio requires IR extended mode on. If it does not, follow the next steps.
a) press and hold programming button and turn car to ON position. both leds will light up.
b) release the programming button.
c) both leds will turn off, then turn on for three seconds.
d) wait until the leds turn off
e) turn car off
to program the controls try to do it as fast as possible. If you mess up then you will have to start over again.
f) turn vehicle to on position
g) press and hold the programming button, left LED will light, release programming button.
h) press and hold up button on steering wheel, left LED should turn off
i) release up button on wheel, right LED will turn on
j) hold remote pointed toward the SWI-X and press and hold up volume button, right led will turn on
k) release button on remote, left LED will turn on
l) now repeat the process for all the other controls on the steering wheel.

Pretty strait forward.

awesome!! thanks!!! :yourock:

i just thought that it was a straight connection if you have an alpine headunit. i thought i remember reading somewhere that with alpine radios, you dont need to program anything, it would just automatically work...
wishful thinking? :(

is yours an alpine?

If your radio doesn't require the IR extended mode on then you probably dont need to do the first programming part, you can just start programming it to the desired buttons. There might be an adapter for the Alpine radio but I've never used one or needed to use one. I used to be an installer and had to program these, sometimes they're a pain in the a**. Just do it fast or you will have to reprogram it over and over again until all the buttons are programmed. Also, make sure you mount the infrared transmitter, coming out of the programming box, in a way where it won't be blocked by anything so it can send the signal to your radio.

cool. thank you. should be here for next weekend. or before. chicago is about 30 minutes away from me. :wrench
i might need some help....

I'm wondering if this will fix my cruise control? I'm not really sure if my cruise control stopped working after I installed my aftermarket head unit, or what happened. Did anyone else lose the use of there Cruise control, besides the radio controls when you changed your head unit?

i switched my headunit, and my cruise control works fine...
maybe you cut a wire?? :zgreenbou

The LS has a feature where it will adjust the volume depending on vehicle speed...... so, the radio harness has your vss wire in it.... which also goes to the cruise unit. chances are this wire got shorted out, or connected to something accidentaly...... but, id think that this would effect your speedometer as well...... anyways.... id check for that........

on another note, i installed the swi-x like a week after putting in my aftermarket head.... i was so spoiled having the steering wheel controls, then loosing them that i had to have it.... i wouldnt be without it

I havent been around the forum in a while, im happy to see that the LS section is growing so much

The VSS circuit for the cruise could be AFTER the speedometer/odometer so they would still operate just fine.

Ford USED to wire the VSS circuits in a modified parallel system. In other words if one circuit failed, the rest would still operate. (kinda like Xmas tree lights) But too many guys figured out that you could splice a toggle switch into the Speedometer circuit and kill the speedometer/odometer and the rest of the car would still operate normally. And if you didn't acutally see the switch, you couldn't tell it had ever been done! Ford wised up. Now the speedo is one of the first things on the circuit and if you cut it, the ECM, trans, cruise, etc all go into default or won't work.
