Looks like Obama/Powell are outgunned.

That more military men support a Republican over a Democrat is of no surprize. Those men are entitled to their vote; they can cast it any which way you like. They at least have the comfort of endorsing McCain without being labled on racial issues.

I do understand the anger towards Powell from the Right, he's a popular and respected guy on both sides (or was until now), he recently served under Bush and he has strong ties/connection with Reagan (the Right's holy grail), how "uppity" of him to break ranks.

They at least have the comfort of endorsing McCain without being labled on racial issues.

That is a mischaracterization; Obama is not being "labeled on racial issues". He is being called on endorsing Obama due to what can only be race, as well as elitism. You are grossly exagurating things...

None of them are Powell, though.

Actually that's exactly what it is.
Everyone knows who Powell is. He's a celebrity.
That's even bigger than getting Oprah's endorsement.

Of course, it help more weight a few years ago.
Conservatives haven't been too impressed with Powell for the past 10 years. And liberals have never liked him.

But to the "independents" (or people who don't have any interest in current events), while he might not have much influence, he will help someone supporting Obama feel better about the decision.

Odd, you say I'm wrong about it being "racial", then you support what I said by saying "what can only be race". Make up your mind.

I will give you a couple of days to assemble a similar list supporting Obama.

Can you give me about 2 weeks? Then we'll have a real list of those supporting Obama.

If you cant wait, here is something from the Wall street Journal
Obama Opens Double-Digit Lead
New Poll Shows McCain Ceding Ground on Taxes, Values; Palin Loses Shine

Obviously you once again chose to ignore a post I made that concerned Powell's connection not only to Obama, but his 'roots' as an African-American and his support for that culture.

Go take a look at what I posted and then you will understand why Powell chose to endorse Obama. Race.

Odd, you say I'm wrong about it being "racial", then you support what I said by saying "what can only be race". Make up your mind.

Saying "racial issues" implies and assumes certian things. Affirmative-action, quotas, black pride, whatever. Someone basing their choice on race is not a "racial issue" and does not label Powell (which you were implying) on "racial issues".

Your statement was effectively broadening the scope of the original critique of Powell and obfuscationg things. (I know you love that word. ;))

Ya, whatever.

If you don't think people have lied about who they are voting for, I feel for you on election day.

Another factor that was mentioned in one of my classes today with regards to polls...

The polls are conducted by landlines and have been for decades.

This fact lead to at least one poll in 1936 saying close to the election that FDR was going to lose by a substancial margin. Phones were new at the time and only the wealthy had them (for the most part), so they polled mostly republicans.

The reverse is true today. Anyone can afford a land-line and many are moving away from them to only cell phones (myself included). So polls are going to talk to more lower income people.

Also, if they are calling in the day, they are going to get a lot of unemployed and elderly.

Don't know how much this affects the polls, but it is a factor.

Yeah, there's many that believe Powell is endorsing Obama because he's black like Powell, ie the issue has to do with race or a "racial issue".

Don't read more into it.

Yeah, there's many that believe Powell is endorsing Obama because he's black like Powell, ie the issue has to do with race or a "racial issue".

What about the idea that he is simply tired of being called an "Uncle Tom" or "White" because his is black and not a radical liberal? It is distinctly possible that he is looking for some sort of legitimization here.

Race could have influenced his decision in any number of ways. No one making the argument that Powell's decision was about race is claiming it was because Obama is "black like Powell". They are just saying it was based on race.

You are assuming what that means without any evidence to support that assumption to the exclusion of other possibilities.

And you are distracting from your original claim that Powell is being labeled on "racial issues".

"Racial issues" is a separate and distinct concept from "race". You are effectively broadening the definition of race to include racial issues. You are equivocating.

"Racial issues" includes "race", but "race" (in an ethicity sense) does not include "racial issues".

Again you are broadening the scope of the original critique of Powell and obfuscating what is being claimed. You are effectively mischaracterizing here.

And would someone please help explain why some of these threads are suddenly running off the screen? Am I the only one who sees this? The "GOP spent $150,000 in donations on Palin's look" thread is just fine. This thread is going off the screen. I don't see any over-sized graphics, so what's causing it?

Its not for me its normal.
Is that whats giving you the head ache ? ;)

This reminds me of the argument that everything depends on what the meaning of "is" is.

just ask the king of the dotted line - look at some of Bryan's posts (in this case the first post - at the bottom of the list) - they have this dotted line in them - that is what is causing the oversizing of the page...

And, only cylons would do such a dastardly, underhanded, despicable thing... ;)

Punch that wall all you like, but like I said:

Don't read more into it.

You know, now that you bring it up - I think Bryan is more Borg (hive mentality) than Cylon.;)
