just a weee bit more ambient noise now.......feels more open now that the only thing in between the trunk and pass. compartment is the seat itself..........oh and a clean trunk......i had lot of tools back there.......so its even lighter now........tehehehe ^_^

Very cool. Any way to cut weight while keeping it stock looking is helpful. When I get mine, my intention is to try to cut weight down to about 3550 lbs, so thanks for the tip. (possibly drilling 1" holes in the rear seat support could drop another few lbs, and you missed a piece of insulation that goes on the floor and surrounds the seatbelts.)

Don't ya think that insulation was there because a Lincoln is a Luxury car & that's why the car is nice & quiet inside? It's very nice to see someone keep there car clean, I give you props on that! I would have never of removed that sound dampening material though just to lose a few pounds. Just my thoughts.

guess you wouldnt want to see what i did to mine,

when i ripped the interior out of my parts car i added all the insulation from the back seat to my 95,so now i have double back there.
i might add sound insulation to other areas too,

i got my mark because it was the nicest luxury car for the money i had,the quieter i can make it the better,
if i want to strip it to lighten it and make it noisy i would be better off getting a mustang.

just to be clear,i am not knocking what you did, just saying thats not for me.

I think it is cool as long as you save the stuff to put it back in later.I would like to buy a $1,000 mark viii and strip as much as possible and take it to the track just for fun and see the track times and mess around on the street with it on 125 shot of nos.Maybe go as far as lexan windows and the door frames cut out and a gutted interior with as much fiberglass stuff i can make for body panels.

I remember about a year or two ago, someone gutted their mark to bare metal and claimed I think 13.8s or 13.4s without nitrous or anything but I think 3.73s and a cold air. It was a big thread as far as I remember. It was for sale on ebay and was in primer.

feel the same way

but its so ugly!!!!! :p .........i have everything ive taken out of it, personally i dont see the point of having that much useless insulation, in ANY car........plus i dont have mufflers on the car, so theres goes the whole 'quiet luxury' car theme out the window :D

i wouldnt drill anything on that brace........its so flimsy :( , i could move it at least 1/4 inch in the middle with my hand lolol..........pretty thin metal.

ill look under the rest of the carpet for more another day, i just figured i look for stuff that might have fallen under the rear seat........

found an old credit card from the previous owner.........

and some nail polish stuff...........yay :shifty:

lol i did just th opposite. I added MORE insulation to my car by putting thicker padding under the carpet (the old carpet was wet from who knows what,so i pressure washed it and replaced the padding) I also added some of those sheet thingys to the spots where there wasnt any in the trunk, inner fenders in the trunk, and under the seats...I like it loud outside and quite inside, I go to Mississippi alot and don't feel like having ahead ache when i get there.(its a 3 hour drive)

Anyways, enjoy the extra .0000000003 bit of h.p ya got ;) lol

Careful with that brace- you have an air line running against it.

chassis flex caused one of those braces to break on mine. The broken tab cut the air ride line that was there. It was quite a pain in the but because it wasn't an obvious diagnosis when my air ride failed.

I had a nasty rattle on my 95 and it ended up that brace on the pass side lower was never even bolted on, there was a single plastic alignment pin of some kind instead of two bolts.

I often think about dumping some insulation and whatever else from the car to save weight. I know it'll amplify road noise, but, hell. Brand new standard no cost option cars pretty much have what we have for luxury. And with the stereo and exhaust..... I hear noise anyways. To each his own I guess. I'm still contemplating.

But I don't think anyone should rip on anyone for what they do. These are nice cars, but they're no longer expensive and brand new. They're not doing anything to your car, and they're not expecting you to ride in theirs.

Yea I gutted most of the deadening in my trunk and don't really notice a difference. The stereo more than makes up for it. It seemed time consuming, then I just used some dry ice to freeze it up and smacked it with a rubber mallet. Most of it just lifted off and the rest shattered and I just vacuumed it out with a wet/dry vac. I just don't see the point to the sheer amount of it.

Might be easy low 12's with nitrous and do you remember the car weight
