Finally blew my mtx sub.

Its been bumping hard about 2 years now....guess it didnt like going from a ported to sealed enclosure.

well now i need a new 10" sub in the 500rms-600rms range. Suggestions??

I was just gonna order one of these:
http://www.audioque.com/aq/?page_id=22

But if anybody knows of anything better link me.

Ive used both of those subs before ,Both are great subs for the price..Eclipse gets a little louder though..Just dont get a kicker.I see so many people spend so much money on l7's and l5's are they are garbage for the money. There are so many better subs out there for half the price.Kinda just paying for the name.

Yeah im not gonna go with those consumer name brands.

The street duty i linked looks like the best sub for under $150.

you were prob trying to get the same out put in the sealed as you were in the ported box..Not gunna happen.

Same settings and everything.

Only thing i changed was the power and ground...i went from 8 gauge to 4 gauge. Guess the sub just couldint handle being sealed.

what are you looking for sq ? The eclipse will get louder than the aq and probally sound a little better doing it.And pg will have a little better sq but still get loud. The eclipse is 850rms and the pg is 500rms but i had 650 going to mine and it loved it.

Im only running just over 500rms right now so an 800rms sub is too much to bump it properly.

the pg is 500 rms and that sub is awesome,im actually find one in a 12 but they are hard to find, the titanium elites are bad ass but they take like 1200 rms..

It's not too much.. Your just not going to be running full power to it

You can actually blow a sub from underpowering it. Or let me rephrase that as trying to get too much power from an amp
thats not strong enough to push the speakers. I like to use my subs to their full potential.

Its better to send 500rms to a 600rms sub vs 500rms to an 800rms sub. Plus i might be getting a second one
down the line along with a new amp.

This is mostly an incorrect post.

The part you mentioned about people trying to get too much from their amp is sonewhat correct. The actual problem with this is when people try to turn up the 'bass boost' and 'gain' and justify doing so by claiming thy are already underpowering the sub. The real thing happening that hurts the sub here is a dirty/distorted signal is being sent to the speakers.

Finally, the second part of your post is ebtirely incorrect; speakers cannot be 'blown' from underpowered amps.

Thats what im trying to get at.

mechanical failure of a speaker is due to heat. I say you can underpower a sub because most will start messing with the gain trying to get the sub to bump harder. So now its clipping and the amp fails.

Thats why i think its better to send more wattage so a sub....use it to its full potential vs not giving it enough power.

Anyways just to show how bad it is:

I agree.. Many people put aftermarket speakers in their doors that call for a lot more power than the head unit will put out and never put an amp to it.. They don't blow, your just not running it to it's full potential.. Watts=VoltageXAmperage.. So sending less amps will lower the watts..

BlackLS06 - I had that same amp. 500rms @ 4 ohms is rated. Then I think they claim 900 @ 2 ohms. All the tests say the most they put out is around 644rms. So you could get a dual 4 ohm sub that handles ~600wrms and fully utilize the power.

Yeah the audioque i linked can be pushed that hard.

AQ sub installed....its not bumping very hard yet. need to break it in so im running it a 4ohms still but in a couple days ill go down to 2 ohms.

So this sub isnt very musical at all.

doesnt sound near as good as the mtx did in the same box in terms of clarity. thinking i might have to put it up for sale on ebay if i dont like it and get maybe an alpine type-r or something else.

But i will keep breaking in to see how the sound changes.
