Smoking down by catalitic converter

My car is now smoking and the transmission is slipping. I know these are symptoms of maybe a bad cat. Any input would be appreciated. The trans was rebuilt about 30k miles ago. Car has about 163k. This car will be the death of me. I'm getting a new car this week, but would like to get something for this pile.

Would a leak cause the transmission to slip? When I looked under the car the smoke was coming out in front of the cat. I'm sure it's the original cat.

You need something on it to make it smoke.

Check your fluid level.... If it is leaking, there is a possibility it is low, which would cause it to slip. Also check your trans fluid for signs it is burnt.

They could also be unrelated problems, your cat could be leaking, and your transmission could be getting worn out.
