smoking belt

Cruising down the street I heard a nasty metal on metal grind then I smelled a burning smell. Popping the hood I saw smoke drifting around. Then I saw the idler pulley wasn't turning!

Well I replaced the pulley and the belt, but the new belt is still getting so hot I can smell it inside the car, no smoke yet.

Any ideas? Maybe the tensioner needs replacing?

Did you spin the other pullies etc when you had the belt off?

No, I saw they were turning, but it would be a good idea to see if any are dragging.

very good idea, i would take the belt off again and try with your hands, all should spin except the harmonic balancer, if that does you got a major problem

Well my A/C compressor pulley is toast, so I know what I'll be doing new years day. What fun!
