Hey, the rear end of my 86 rides fine, pumps up quick as soon as I put it in drive. Within about 20 minutes of parking the rear is on the ground. Is this normal? The front never drops so I am thinking slight rear leak. I have seen that some guys use SLime to fix mild leaks. Is this advisable? How do I do it if it is? Theory seems sound.
hehe.. . yeah, I'd say you gotta a leak, there, and it doesn't sound "mild" if it only takes 20 minutes to the ground. That'll fry your pump, eventually.
Slime can work a bit in theory, yes. It's messy and tricky to do and could gum up your system. More of a very desperate emergency fix. Not something to do and think you'll be stylin around town for months to come. :wrench lol Don't do it!
There was one way I used to get a lot more miles out of a bad one. That was to disassemble the whole airspring, seal up the stress cracks from inside, flip the rubber upside down, reassemble, and your off... :steering
But I don't endorse that for safety reasons. lol.. That was my own experimental fix, years ago, and it worked.
Get yourself some soapy water in a spray bottle and, right after you park it, get up under the rear and spray around the bottom of the airsprings. You'll see the bubbles pooring out. You can spray around the tops and solenoids too, if you want to check for a really bad leak. A tiny bit is common at the solenoid, but make sure that it's opening and closing. I assume it is.
