"Singing" when I accelerate

Another problem with my 98 Conti. When I accelerate, I hear a loud "singing" or "pinging" noise from under the hood. I've looked for something to hit w/a
little WD-40, but the noise persists.

Seems to be worse when it has been raining.

Again, any help you all can provide would be great.

I love the car and want to keep her going as long as possible.

Could you be more descriptive on the noise? Thru the high rpm's, on the shift, consistent with engine speed. Things like that.
