why is it that my 2000 v6 states 5-30 oil, however a 2001 v6, same moter etc states 5-20. do you think i should use 5-20 instead?

Better gas mileage.

Use the weight specified on the oil filler cap or owners guide for that year.

That being said either will work without any harm.

As mine is a high mileage car (144,600 on a 01 V6) I have been using 10-30 Mobil 1 high mileage for some time already, didn't feel any difference up from 5-20 mobil 1.
